CM: Thiaw’s agent working on Premier League move – Milan’s stance and minimum price

By Oliver Fisher -

Gerry Cardinale’s visit to Italy has brought about an acceleration in AC Milan’s summer mercato and not exclusively on the incomings front either.

According to Calciomercato.com, the arrival of the RedBird Capital number one has ‘unlocked the Youssouf Fofana operation with Monaco’ and he continues to speak with Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic about other situations.

At present, Cardinale does not need to evaluate any offers for the key players within the squad and on the contrary there is actually the desire to lock down certain stars long-term, such as Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan.

A player who could soon become the subject of reflection is Malick Thiaw. Milan consider him to be central to the project, but his agent has been working on a transfer to the Premier League since January.

Newcastle United seem to be the team that have stepped forward, after they had some contact with the Rossoneri in June without making a written offer. In the last few hours they have re-established contact with the agency that look after the interests of the German defender.

Milan hold Thiaw in high regard, as shown by the fact they signed him from second division side Schalke, but at the same time they will not hold anyone against their will and thus if he wants to leave offers will be evaluated.

To convince the Rossoneri, a lot of money is still needed. They believe that he is worth €40m, and that has been transmitted to his agency.

    1. And it means we might not have to sell Bennacer. To fund Fofana, Samardzic, Fullkrug and Pavlovic with 37M left in the kitty, we need at least 40M, which is exactly what they’re quoting Newcastle. Sell Salad for 10M and we could even raise some of the offers to close quicker.

    1. I would even try Tonali for Thiaw+10M

If we get this deal Fofana, Tonali, Bennacer, Reijnders as core while RLC, Musah and Maldini or even Bonaventura as a free agent, would give very strong midfield, with 2 Italians since we only have 6: Sportiello, Nava, Terracciano, Florenzi, Calabria, Gabbia.

Florenzi can leave, Pobega almost guaranteed, while I think Fonseca wants to give Colombo time until the end of US tour so maybe we sell/terminate Jovic and keep Colombo as 3rd choice

  1. milan is known well with late bloomer players. for a club with this record i’m surprised how come they are so short and little patient with their players they call young talents and future prospects.

the management has zero faith and little patience while the fans have

    1. “Milan consider him to be central to the project, but his agent has been working on a transfer to the Premier League since January.”

  2. An obscure post from a football page says that Newcastle is about to sign Malick for 30 Million with 5 million in add-ons.

Milan is waiting to complete the Pavlovic deal so they can release Malick. I think there are some reasons to believe these figures and why the deal is not done.

    1. Neat. And the numbers make sense.

With Thiaw out and Pav in we have Tomorri, Gabbia, Pav.

We see Simic, Thiaw and Kjaer leave while Kalulu moves right. So it would seem we need one more CB?

      1. Yeah completely agree. I think we needed Pavlovic anyway, given Kjaer left and Simic /Pellegrino are no longer here as the “youngster backup option”

So any more departures whether Tomori or Thiaw would need a signing to replace them. We need at least 4 but more likely 5 options at CB.

      2. Two more. For two CB spots we should be carrying 5 CBs. Simic would have been no. 5 I think, even is spending most of his time with Milan Futuro, but now we need another. Maybe Kalulu won’t be played on the right after all…

  3. If he wants to go and they’re willing to pay 40M sell away. Bring pavlo and kiwior. With Tomori and Gabbia, kalulu in a pinch plus the new guys we have enough cbs to get through the season

      1. Think majority of people on here don’t like agreeing with me. Has to do with my personality, not with what I say tho

  4. 40m is a crazy bargain sell him and buy kiwior who said he even wants Milan+he’s actually good and not to old and he’s left footed

  5. Sell thiaw (40m) and bennecar (50m) and buy fofana (20m) and Pavlovic (20m) and kiwior (25m) and finally buy samardzic (20m) which will equal 85 which gives us a 5m profit if we sell bennecar and thiaw (and we get way better player sim return)

  6. I’m surprised they don’t value him higher than that. Unless it’s taking into account he wants to go to the epl. You have to make the move before it’s a public thing and you lose leverage but he can be a very good player. Already his passing numbers the best on the team at 22.

  7. €30m for Thiaw is a very good deal. If Newcastle are offering more, Milan should cash in on him. We can get a better player for far less.
