CM: Three players praised and two questions after Milan’s 5-0 win over Modena

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan recorded their second win in two preseason games as they beat Serie C side Modena 5-0 at Milanello this evening.

Calciomercato.com have picked out three players in particular who impressed during the game, starting with Brahim Diaz who took less than two minutes to mark his return with a goal. A neat passing interchange with Theo Hernandez ended with a nice finish, and the Spaniard excellent between the lines, with dribbling and first touches that caught the eye. He also got an assist too.

Theo Hernandez was also picked out as the French full-back is ‘already in a state of optimal form’ and is ready for the first game of the season. He managed a brilliant assist for the first goal, scored himself from a free-kick and perhaps most importantly showed good defensive awareness on multiple occasions.

Rafael Leao was also praised, as he scored with a header after some smart movement to meet Brahim Diaz’s cross, and he turned provider for Rade Krunic’s header that made it 4-0. He made an excellent impression for his great desire to be the protagonist, with and without the ball.

The report mentions two players who were not at their best beginning with Alexis Saelemaekers, who ‘is probably suffering more with workload than the others’ having missed the previous game against Pro Sesto. Nonetheless, it was a useful 45 minutes for him.

Then Sandro Tonali got a mention too although he made few mistakes both in the dribble phase and from a tactical point of view. However, from someone with his characteristics, one ‘expects something more in terms of personality’.

  1. Stop placing Leao as a striker. He can score v Modena but he’s a far better winger. Either llay him as a winger or CF in tandem with a real striker next to him and watch him explode. Or keep playing him as striker and likely sell him bc he’s not good there.
