CM: U21 Euros could be key as Milan make decision regarding De Ketelaere

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have seemingly opened up to the idea of selling Charles De Ketelaere this summer for the right price, a report claims.

A report from Calciomercato.com starts by stating that the priority for Milan’s new management will be the sales of players no longer deemed part of the project to increase the budget for signings.

The plan is to try and keep the big names, but this means that players like De Ketelaere could be on their way out, especially after a difficult first season in which he did not manage a single goal and got just one assist.

A peremptory decision was made at Casa Milan given his difficulty in adapting, and that is that De Ketelaere can be sold for the right price, especially given that Stefano Pioli has not really found a role for him from a tactical point of view.

Now, Milan hope that the Belgian playmaker shows his talent at the U21 European Championships with his country to relaunch himself. If he does, then they hope a club will show up and offer the €30m needed for his exit to be approved.

    1. Yes, time will tell. And if he does come good the “I told you so” crowd will show up, although I think it’s kind of pointless to dwell in the past. We must look forwards. Either we hope that CDK breaks out next season if he stays with us, or if he goes that the funds recovered are good enough and we can use them for proper reinforcements.

    2. Like Hauge in other coach hand . Where is he now ? He is gone in some unknown club with loan status. When you sign player with your 70% budget ,can you say : sorry we need 3 years for adaptation from 5 years contract. After finish adaptation 3 years then reject new contract and go free transfer like kessie

  1. So if he relaunch himself Milan will sell him? Why not keep him instead? If Pioli cannot understand his best role, he should watch how Belgium U21 coach relaunch him.

    1. Actually national team and club are two different things, especially at U21 level.. You can see: Why Ziyech, is a regular starter, for his national team. But a bench warmer, in his club..

  2. Sounds like a plan. Surely if he’s still bombing for Belgium we’d be dumb not to accept a good offer for him.

  3. With the limited budget, assuming Kamada’s coming, and seemingly mismatch with Pioli (yes he’s our centre of gravitation now, lol), it’s pretty wise to sell him and allocate the budget to a more urgent position.

  4. This article shows exactly the biggest issue of Milan and just disgusts me tbh.
We hope a young player we bought performs well not cuz we want him to succeed but cuz we want to sell him.
Milan is dead and this club now is a disgusting parody of the once gloriois club.

Just like, we sold Tonali, Bennacer, Theo and Leao, is getting ready to sold right?

  5. Let’s not forget there were also strong rumours to sell Leao at some point, and now he is unplayable and can walk into any team.
