CM: West Ham back in for Tomori – Milan’s price and the idea with Pavlovic

By Oliver Fisher -

While a lot of the attention in the media is on signings that AC Milan might make this summer, a report emerged yesterday claiming that West Ham have a genuine interest in Fikayo Tomori.

It was first reported by Ben Jacobs yesterday that West Ham are indeed keeping tabs on the centre-back and their interest is ‘genuine’. He stated that there are no negotiations for now, though, and it remains to be seen if the London club will proceed.

According to Calciomercato.com, West Ham are indeed interested in Tomori and there would be a certain irony to things given that their new head coach is Julen Lopetegui, who expected to work with the Englishman at Milan before the leadership pulled the plug and went for Paulo Fonseca.

Tomori knows the Premier League and the city of London well having come through the Chelsea youth sector, but at the moment it is only an idea. It is not the first time that West Ham have been interested in the 26-year-old because the first inquiries arrived last summer.

However, the Hammers have once again met the firm position of the Milan management after reopening talks. The strategy is in fact to bring Stranhija Pavlovic in from Red Bull Salzburg and to partner him with Tomori, rather than lose a starting player.

If a figure of €40-45m were to come in then Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani would come to the negotiating table but this is a figure that West Ham are very unlikely to pay, given they spent €40m to sign Max Kilman from Wolverhampton.

  1. It doesn’t make sense from our perspective to give up our currently best CB. We cannot replace him for significantly less money, and we want to build the defense around Tomori. Even if we would get 40-50 million.

I think we only need to complement our central defense with Pavlovic, unless a very good offer comes in for Thiaw. He could then be replaced with less money (Kiwior).

  2. The fact that West Ham are in for him tells you all you need to know regarding our best defender and the standards of this once great club.

If the offer is around 20_30 mill just sell it’s best for the player who will be playing at a much higher level in terms of the league also more of a chance to get a sniff of playing for England.

As for Milan they supposedly going forward want to increase the level of players and the club well now is the time.

    🙈🙉🙊

    1. I disagree with you mate. He was a key starter during the Scudetto season and last year he was fine, one of the only players showing grinta, he scores important goals sometimes. He’s been injured like anybody else in this team and the midfield didn’t help the defensive sector. Milan should avoid selling its starters, especially in a sector where the club already have holes.

      1. You must not have been watching, Tomori was dreadful last year, with awful errors several times per game. Out of position, unaware of what’s happening around him, and needless turnovers deep in MIlan’s end. Without Kjear next to him he was shown to be a weak link. If anyone comes in with a halfway decent offer (and he’s willing to go) send him away. Southgate is a moron, but he got that one right that Tomori isn’t good enough.

        1. I’ve been watching and I disagree with you as well. I don’t know if you played football but I was a defender myself and when you’re asked to cover your zone and a left back that is often very high on the pitch while having nobody to cover the midfield with the other centre back being a liability, it’s impossible to perform well.

    2. “The fact that West Ham are in for him tells you all you need to know regarding our best defender and the standards of this once great club.”
So if mid-level clubs start inquiring about your players you should immediately sell cause that means they’re mediocres ?
If West-Ham starts making offers their value will automatically drop right cause West-Ham will never dare to go for good players and they’re a good metric to know if your players are good or not ?
