CM: Why Milan are now pursuing another Chelsea midfielder after Loftus-Cheek

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan seemed intent on signing Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea and the clubs were working towards an agreement, but now the strategies seem to have changed.

According to Calciomercato.com, Loftus-Cheek had approved the idea of joining Milan who found an agreement found with Chelsea over a transfer fee of around €18m, but the deal collapsed and the Rossoneri changed targets.

However, the new Milan management have not changed to a target from another club but have instead rekindled their interest in signing Carney Chukwuemeka, who is also at Chelsea and was sought last year before he moved to west London.

Chukwuemeka joined them from Aston Villa for €18m which was a figure deemed too high at the time by Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, but the fact the directors have since been sacked means the stance could change.

Loftus-Cheek is 27 years of age and has had injury issues meaning he is not considered worthy of the investment that had been planned. Chukwuemeka on the other hand is 19 and is considered to have big potential.

However, the overcrowding of talent at Chelsea is forcing them to look for a loan solution and Milan want an option to buy. The Blues might well push for a buy-back but the Rossoneri want to avoid that so the Brahim Diaz case does not repeat itself.

  1. “but the fact the directors have since been sacked means the stance could change.”

Indeed, if 18m was considered too high by M&M, anything not free is considered too high by the new management.

    1. Because he is not available. You think they will give us one of their top talents? They did not pay 15M for him when he was a kid to give him away when he finally matured to start playing…

      1. I know that?! Why is it okay for Chelsea to inquire about our top star but God forbid if we ask their top talents too?

The reports claimed that Maignan is one of four who’s supposedly ‘not’ available anyway. You think we will just give away one of our stars? We didn’t buy Maignan to sell him away when he finally matured into one of the best keeper in the world. Same logic, right?

        1. What are you 7 years old? What is wrong with you? Yes, Milan would sell Maignan for 100M in a blink of an eye, Chelsea would not sell their top player for any money. That is why. Even if Chelsea was a selling club Milan does not have money to buy Casadei, he is a 30M+ player after this U20 World Cup. Grow up and stop fantasizing.

          1. Is that really necessary to go for personal jibe there, eh Martin? That was really uncalled for.

            Anyway,

Chelsea unfortunately needed to sell some too, because they’re going to have issues with FFP otherwise. Of course, Casadei would be somewhere at the bottom of the must-sell-now list. However, I don’t think it’s that unbelievable for Chelsea to let go of Casadei if they really want Maignan that much. They need to win now (after spending so much) and one of their weakest link is GK department, would it be THAT unthinkable for them to sacrifice ONE of their potential player? Milan management would know this, and if Maignan is that unsellable, shouldn’t we play hardball and ask for Casadei instead of say, RLC instead? Of course this would be a starting point of negotiation but we’re on the upper hand here.

If they’re offering 50M + Casadei, would you accept if you’re in charge of Milan?

          2. Well, you replied like you are 7 years old, being offended that Milan can’t buy Casadei. That is the reality, it isn’t my fault. And no, Chelsea will not give him up. You are saying they need to sell, but do you know much money they need to collect? 150M€. They are selling Mount for 80M€ to Man Utd, almost complete from what I read. Kovacic to City for around 30M€ is almost complete. They have Lukaku to Inter for 40M, we’ll see if that is done and that is it. 150M€. They have covered what they needed. They still have a bunch of players they will sell like Pulisic, Koulibaly, Cucurella, probably Havertz, Ziyech, Aubamaeyang. That is another 100M easy and I undervalued them by a lot, Havertz alone is at least 60M. So, everything you wrote makes no sense as it is a fantasy, not real life. Chelsea is not a selling club and they won’t give up their top talent that just won the golden boot and ball at U20 world cup to buy a goalkeeper from Milan. It seems they will buy Onana form Inter and save some money. They could also buy Raya who is great, Diogo Costa etc. If Chelsea offered that I would not accept. I would ask for 100M, buy a keeper for 40-50M and invest the 50M into Baldanzi and a few younger Italian players.

  2. Chelsea only want to loan Chukwuemeka, but if we could caveat that with a 35-40 Mil buy back, that just might land him and give us a little insurance..
Like to see him down the right..

  3. Casadei would be an awesome signing for the long term, and probably good enough to be a rotation player now.

But I doubt Chelsea will release him, except on dry loan or with a super high option-to-buy fee.

I’d love it if we could somehow engineer that move but so far the boards penny pinching makes me doubt almost every transfer opportunity.

However, it’s early days of summer, probably need to wait a few weeks before making a judgement.

  4. Tbf loftus is a way better than chukwu ,they are going for chukwu just because he is free, loftus is fast, strong, tall and great technician, something that we do not have right now. Right now we have only fighters in our midfield.

      1. Where does the “loan deals are free”-propaganda come from? Most loans are paid ones and you think a club like Chelsea would send their players out without any compensation?

      2. And here comes the guy talking about player that was paid 120 mil and comparing him with a youngster that you can take for max 1-2 mil on loan which i consider as a “free”.

  5. “Chukwuemeka joined them from Aston Villa for €18m which was a figure deemed too high at the time by Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, but the fact the directors have since been sacked means the stance could change.”

What what? LMAO how does this even make sense hahaha 😂. I’m lost. So M&M thought the price was too high in line with what the owners wanted then but now they changed to what exactly?
