CM: Why Milan can breathe a sigh of relief regarding Maignan

By Oliver Fisher -

There were some fears that Mike Maignan could miss a couple of games minimum after he left the field during the win over Slavia Praha in midweek, but Stefano Pioli can breathe a sigh of relief.

Calciomercato.com confirm that Maignan will start between the posts for Milan today during their game against Hellas Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi, with kick-off set for 15:00 CET.

Pioli can smile because the Frenchman did the entire training session yesterday without feeling any particular pain. The former Lille man will therefore be available, and will hope to lead his team as they aim to keep hold of second place.

Recalling the incident in Prague, it was in the early stages of the game that Maignan collided with Slavia right-back Tomas Vlcek. The worry was that it was a collision impact that was very strong on the right leg, at knee height too.

He tried to play on twice but was unable to, leaving the field strapped up and thus the medical staff awaited the results of his scan on Friday with angst.

However, the tests showed that there was no ligament damage done, something that is always a fear with impacts that involve the knee.
