CM: Most passes and recoveries in the world – why Milan want Fluminense ace

The latest name on AC Milan’s list of potential midfield targets is André Trindade of Fluminense, and a look at his stats suggest he could well be a good fit.

Calciomercato.com confirm the report from MilanNews last night which claimed that Trindade is the newest name to be evaluated by the management and evaluations are underway regarding how suitable he is.

Born in 2001 in Ibiritaia, a municipality in the State of Bahia, the midfielder came through the ranks at Fluminense where he played in all the youth teams, arriving first in the Under 17s and subsequently in the Under 20s.

In the youth team of the South American club, André’s profile emerges as a modern midfielder, to be placed in a 4-2-3-1, the formation in which he grew and proved that he deserved a place in the first team.

His debut in Fluminense’s senior side came on 17 September 2020, in a Copa do Brasil match against Atletico Goianiense. From there he got more trust from coaches like Hellmann, Machado and Diniz, the latter of whom made him one of the pillars of Fluminense who win the Copa Libertadores and the Recopa Sudamericano.

Arguably the biggest honour came in June 2023 when he made his senior debut with the Brazilian national team in a friendly against Senegal, but what led Trindade to end up in Milan’s sights?

Firstly his role as a midfielder in front of the defence pertains to a crucial task for the balance of Fluminense, which is something that Milan need. His intensity in the ball recovery phase and his ability to turn defence into attack also stand out.

He is also often protagonist of precise and punctual defensive readings, as well as showing vision of the game and good dribbling. His way of being on the pitch reflects the completeness that is required of a modern midfielder: intense and versatile but also composed and smart.

The Brazilian is in fact the player with the highest number of successful passes globally, dominating the statistics with 3925 precise passes in 2023, followed by Rodri with 3272 and Toni Kroos with 2969, with a success rate of 91.8%. Last year he was the player who recovered the most balls in the world (406), according to Sofascore.

There are areas to work on such as his lack of aerial dominance and sometimes showing too much impetuosity in tackling, yet the report claims that he fits the bill for Paulo Fonseca’s Milan. He could also continue the strong Brazilian tradition at the club.

  1. According to transfermarkt he is out injured for the last 2 months with a kneee injury so unless he is about to return i question why this story keeps popping up as milan isnt gonna a buy an injured player but maybe someone from brazil on SempreMilan knows better and can enlighten me on the matter of the severity of his injury.

    1. I am from Brazil. He will probably return to the field in the next game. Even if I don’t play the next one, it’s very close.

          1. Not at the time. Go see the comments from this time last year when Milan signed him. Same old nonsense. Injury prone… Chelsea trash… Only signing him to sell jerseys in America… You were probably one of them. Now everyone likes to pretend differently.

          2. But K there will always be some complaining about everything but that doesn’t mean its the greater consensus of everyone and you shouldn’t forget either that some commenters use several accounts to substantiate their own agendas and add to that trolls pouring gazoline on small fires.
No I wasn’t and i rarely complain on the web and you should know that by now.

          1. Yes, anyone who doesn’t come here and mindlessly trash the ownership for no reason is a red bird worker. The IQ on this sire just keeps dropping.

    1. They both were. Some drama in the France-Poland game with that penalty. I thought Mike really did save it, but oops… went a bit off his line and they had to retake it.

      1. Watched most of the netherlands match but switched a bit back and fourth but missed that penalty,
Austria won the freaking group ahead of france and netherlands, thats good enough for me 😀

        1. France dominated in that game, but just couldn’t bury the match and paid the price. Oh well, I still rank them as a favorite in this tournament.

I never thought Austria would ever win the group though. Crazy.

          1. From what i watched of that match it definitely also seemed so and yeah i agree they are definitely one of them if not the favourite of the tournament,

Yeah there is probably not many austrians that thought that was possible either, Must have given some rather significant odds in return.

          2. It’s the group of death. France, Netherlands, Austria and Poland. All good teams. Feel bad for Poland because in a different group they probably would have progressed.

          3. It probably is but i would also argue that group b-c and f isnt a walk in the park. I do too, wish we had signed lewandowski in his prime.

      2. that was some bs, too. Lewandowski stopped his run-up like three times; I think the fair thing would have been to call them offsetting infractions and play on instead of giving him a re-kick (where his run-up was once again pretty much illegal, imo).

        1. Yea that was a sus run up. At some point in time they’ll need to do something about it. Even those single stutter step ones would be against the law. It’s not a fluid motion

  2. You know he has 175 appearances and he’s just 22. He’s not injury prone besides from what happened recently. In 2022 and 2023, he had 60 and 59 appearances. In Brazil they play many games.

According to Transfermarket, prior to his knee injury, he never had a single injury.

It’s still a gamble. But no, he’s not injury prone.

  3. 5 more minutes and the Netherlands are out of the euros. Good news for us and bad news for Zirkzee and his agent.

    1. Its unlikely to happen but I believe if england and slovenia draws and Denmark wins with 2 goals then we will win the group. I wouldn’t bet my money on it though.

    2. Whoever meets England in the next round must be sh*tting themselves. Took them half an hour tonight to have a shot on goal against Slovenia.

  4. Either he is good and some 3rd division team from Belgium will snatch him while ACM haggle for a pizza and two beers.

Or he is lot good enough.

  5. Ship Bennacer out, buy this guy.
60 games 1 season 59 games another season.
Bennacer needs at least 2 seasons to play 60 games.

  6. Seems to lack a bit of pace, and if that is in fact the case, he would not be a good fit for a Milan-team who will play high up the pitch.

    1. Fonzy use 4231 in lille but can switch to 433 sometimes. This brazilian can play in both formation . The problem only he have release clause 80m euro but ACM want negotiate with 20-30 m euro offer

  7. The team needs a physically strong player who often wins duels and is a human wall in front of the defense line and breaks the opponent’s attacks. With all due respect, the Brazilian player does not have these characteristics, especially aerial fights. He is great at passing correctly and retrieving balls according to the data information. And all fear after contracting will take a season or two to adapt.

  8. He looks like the player we desperately need. Therefore he won’t come. Moncada will opt for a Ligue 1 player with 2M€ price and zero agent demands.
