CM: Why the wait to see Caldara is likely to continue into the new year

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Mattia Caldara recently completed his return from a long-term injury, but we are yet to see him in competitive action this season.

Caldara suffered ligament damage during the Rossoneri’s cup semi-final second leg defeat to Lazio back in April and has been working hard to recover, with Stefano Pioli confirming before the game against Napoli that he is around two weeks away from full fitness.

According to calciomercato.com, Caldara has finally recovered from the many physical problems that have resigned him to the point of playing just two games in a year and a half.

For the moment, however, Pioli believes that Caldara does not give the same guarantees that Mateo Musacchio gives as Alessio Romagnoli’s partner.

For this reason, Caldara will likely be tested again, perhaps in a friendly match or again with the Primavera, but to see him again on the pitch as a starter will likely have to wait until after the winter break.

Milan do not want to take risks, and will only field the former Juventus man when he is 100% in terms of match fitness and preparation.
