The AC Milan management held a meeting without head coach Paulo Fonseca after last night’s 3-1 defeat against Liverpool at San Siro, according to a report.

As Calciomercato.com recall, the San Siro crowd booed the team off the field after a very disappointing performance, one that followed a 4-0 win over Venezia which proved to be just a false dawn.

Fonseca’s position as the head coach is naturally under scrutiny after a disastrous start to the season and it is causing discussions among the management. Meanwhile, Stefano Pioli is heading for Al-Nassr which changes things economically.

With Pioli’s salary off the books, there would be a big saving that could provide the budget to go and change coach again, with the names of Massimiliano Allegri and Maurizio Sarri ‘very popular with the fans’ as per the report.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – who defined himself on TV before the game as ‘the boss who commands’ – will be called to make a decision along with Geoffrey Moncada and the CEO Giorgio Furlani. They chose not to leave with the team after the game.

Not only that, but the trio left San Siro about 35 minutes after midnight and that is something that is causing much discussion, as it was clearly quite a long and delicate de-brief after they saw the Rossoneri jeered off.

The next match will in fact be the derby and, although an immediate change in manager seems unlikely before that game, the match against Nerazzurri will probably be the last chance for Fonseca to show that he can lead the team moving forward.

      1. Capello football was boring too and I am a Milan fan since 1988. You probably weren’t even born yet.

Allegri is the type of coach Milan needs and he should have been signed in the summer after Pioli‘s dismissal.

Trophies and titles are won by good defense. In order to build a winning team you have to build the team from the back.

Allegri will have no problem getting rid of players who are not performing well and doing what they are told. This is a problem Pioli and Fonseca have at Milan.

        1. I think u dont fans 88. If u fans 88. U must know. Every coach comeback to coach acmilan again never succesed. This history of milan. Acmilan can be success if 10 italian player mostly from dna primavera or italian player other club. Must coach from old acmilan player or have acmilan player. This dna history begin structure from Fabio capello

      1. Because Sarri needs a year to implement his system.
Might as well keep Fonseca and give him a year than hire almost 70 year old coach and wait a year for the team to start playing better

    1. Conte was not the right coach because he has tantrums so let’s hire the guy who had a brain meltdown on live TV with the refs then fought his own management and is now suing Juventus. That’s not the yes man profile that the egomaniacs at Casa Milan like. Most probably Zlatan will hire some friend from high school.

      1. Conte was not the right coach because of his system and the players we have. But I’m over that now. Sell Leao and Chukwueze and whoever else and bring me Conte…we should have done that last summer.

Lol @ Zlatan will hire some friend. Zlatan will hire himself. Actually, as I’m writing this I wouldn’t be surprised if Ibrahimovic is appointed “caretaker”.

      1. Because Conceicao is an unknown and a risk. The time for risks has passed.
He should have been hired in the summer. Right now Milan needs someone who gives some kind of guarantees

        1. You’re not wrong, BUT, Allegri won’t come as a stop gap and makes it difficult to fire him as Juve will tell you. So yes, maybe he fixes the defense but his anti-football will persist for a long while. We will turn on him eventually (probably later this season) for a lack of attacking prowess.

I would love to see someone more “well-rounded”

          1. I’m not pushing for Allegri, but people forget that before Juventus, i.e. when he coached Milan the first time around (and Cagliari before that) he employed a 4-3-3, and it was not just ugly football. Given the players we have, why couldn’t he revert to that? My guess is the pressure to win at Juventus is so great that it influenced the formation and philosophy change.

  1. Allegri understand’s defence and tactical positioning more then any other available coach.
Right now , in this situation, the main thing that matters is creating a compact defense as everything starts from that. Without a strong defense this team will continue floundering and wilting.
So as much as I dislike Allegri , for how he treated Pirlo in his previous stint and his rather ugly , unentertaining game , I must admit he is the best candidate to restore tactical discipline, strong defensive team positioning and resolve to stay in the game for 90 mins… The bedrock needed to rebuild this team.

    1. he is the best candidate to restore tactical discipline, strong defensive team positioning and resolve to stay in the game for 90 mins… The bedrock needed to rebuild this team.

this is just it. At least lets start from arranging our defence well and stop the loads of goals coming in then we can talk how the attck will move. IMHO

      1. Exactly. Fixing the worst defense in the league should be the main priority. We have the players to score goals when we get the chances but the defense needs to be fixed ASAP.

    1. You wrong. Allegri win with AC team built by his previous coach. Prive? He destroyed milan after then Juventus. Look at when drive Pirlo out . China in juv another example. His football is spending hours to build one offense

I would say try Sarri? Klopp would come to Italy once given chance.

The main priblem is Cardinali doesn’t have Milan mentality. He’s cheap under financial sustainability disguise

  2. This coach needs to be fired!! The team has lost its spine.. No leadership on the pitch and they. Any even string 3 passes together.. I bet Maignan had more touches than Leao and Morata combined.

  3. I hope they were slapping each other on the face.

They are part of the problem.

They signed players late, they didn’t sign the best quality, they constantly underbid for players, and are more focused on brand sales than success on the pitch.

  4. Zlatan was in everyone’s face with the 7 day Creation plan, acting like…. Zlatan.

Where is his face now when this team is in disarray? Honestly the summit needs to be with Jerry to discuss the people he put in charge and where we are so far.

Zlatan has been no better than Maldini as a director which he officially isn’t. Who is going to tell Jerry to find a respectable Sporting Director and let ibra go?

    1. The sporting director is Furlani. Who is going to tell Jerry to let Furlani go and find a real sporting director is the actual question. The next out the door needs to be Moncada. He’s had a “good run”, time to move on. As this season collapses, one month in, those truly responsible are those making the decisions on player purchases and coach hiring. While some of our player purchases have been good, others have been bad, our sales (both in terms of players that shouldn’t have been sold and those that should have been sold) have been dismal, and the hiring of Fonseca is a catastrophe. Furlani and Moncada are responsible for this. If Zlatan backed them up, then he too is responsible, but I think the first two are the main culprits. More than further chopping and changing in the squad, we need to chop and change in the management.

      1. Honestly, i dont see cardinale and ibrahimovic firing Moncada and Furlani right now because they dont see them as the issue yet and there in lies the problem

  5. as bitter as it is, the leaders of AC Milan are incompetent, that’s the only truth. look why they didn’t bring Dizerbi instead this gentleman was free from any contract, he really wanted to come to AC Milan and he has an impeccable clear game plan look at the work he is doing at Marseille yet Marseille is not more rich as AC Milan.
