AC Milan are not far away from securing their spot in the Champions League next season, but once they do, there won’t just be time for celebrations.
After a season without the competition, which had a huge financial impact, Milan are about to return to the Champions League. They are currently nine points ahead of fifth place with ten games to go, and while it’s not mathematically sealed yet, they should feel very confident.
That said, just as a return would result in celebrations among the fans, it will demand a lot from the management. Now that a solid foundation has been build for the league, it’s clear that some signings are needed to take the project to the next level, as has been talked about in recent weeks.
Midfield reinforcement too?
In an editorial piece for Gazzetta dello Sport, the columnist Alessandro Vocalelli has suggested four signings for Milan. One per department, to be exact, if we are counting the wing-back positions as different from the defence and midfield.
“In defence, Gila has been talked about for some time. As a protégé of Tare, who discovered him and brought him to Italy, he’s an exemplary professional who waited his turn, improved, and then became one of the league’s top centre-backs.
“His contract expires in 2027, but he’s ready to leave in the summer. Someone like him would be perfect for AC Milan: quick, explosive, and excellent at recovering the ball. Perhaps you could say the missing piece.
“Further up the pitch, we have Bartesaghi who pairs up with the hero of the derby, Estupinan. Given the current situation, Milan should consider strengthening the right flank.
“The best option would be someone like Palestra, who would be a deputy for Saelemaekers while also being capable of taking on other roles too if needed.
“In midfield, from Modric to Ricci, from Fofana to Rabiot and Jashari, the department is well-stocked, also considering Loftus-Cheek who has specialised in the attack. However, the cherry on the cake would be a player like Ederson of Atalanta. Strength, vision: it would be a huge leap in quality.
“Finally, up front, the recommendation is simple: a penalty area man, strong in the air, a point of reference for Leao and Pulisic. There was talk of Vlahovic, but now he’s close to renewing at Juve again. So, an almost indisputable candidate would be Guirassy of Borussia Dortmund,” he concluded.

“then became one of the league’s top centre-backs.” When did this happen? Did anyone watch Gila against Verona? Or Como? He isn’t worth 10M.
I’ve had the same impression of the Lazio backs after watching them recently. But in fairness, the fans are on strike and the owner isn’t budging on money restrictions. It can’t be easy getting excited about playing for that team right now. Depending upon what he costs, I could see taking a chance that Gila with Milan will be much better than Gila with Lazio today.
I’m not a big fan of Gila. I would rather get de Light or Skriniar. But definitely Ederson is a must. RLC can go. Guirassy is a must for Milan.
Scalvini over Gila.
And perpetually in the treatment room. RLC 2.0, and then some.
They must be so picky, so much that they’ll sign a nobody from nowhere land
Ederson would be a solid addition but Milan will never spend the money Atalanta would want for him. Wasn’t that Brazilian kid Andre supposed to be a younger better Ederson anyway?
How much do you think they will want for him? Because his contract is up in 2027. So they’re not going to ask for the 60-70M they were asking for a summer or two ago as they will risk losing him for free in 2027. I think it’s doable at 30-40M, and this would be worth it for a player that would be a big upgrade over Fofana.
I think Inter wanted him and Juve could use him too but EPL won’t have any problems shelling out above 40mil for him. Milan won’t.
EPL can certainly outbid us, but they’re not stupid either. They’re not going to just shell out 50-60M on Ederson with a year left. He’s good, but not THAT good. He’s not a 100M player (when under long term club control).
There is 10+ clubs interested in him. So, not going to happen. Even Atletico Madrid can easily offer double from what Milan offers in terms of wages. It would be better to dish out 20M on Andre if that kid is such a talent but it will probably be some Chelsea reject for 30-35M.
So you’re saying we shouldn’t even try? “Nah, other clubs want him”. Other clubs want Andre too. Other clubs wanted Fofana.
Vero rossonero they are asking 25ml
Yes to Gila and Palestra.
Kean over Guirassy.
Ricci + €€€ for Ederson.
Kean and another striker much more taller
I would take a CAM like Bernardo Silva instead of another CDM
Chukwueze, Musah, Bennacer first needs to be sold. Than at least 1 central forward, if you want to bring new one…
Kean-a ja nebi baš volio !! Guirassiya da u svakom slučaju
Milan if serious should back Allegri properly
If they do this type of investment and just manages to get in to the UCL the next two season they will be much better positioned and economically sound and given him us a proper opportunity.
Signings should always be prioritised for improving the the team and not other agendas like we seen recently to great failure’s
With that said to put a improved product on the field with all these extra commitments a trusted general like Allegri can handle a mini revolution as he has just showcased this season results.
I do not doubt the need for better depth through some intelligent player acquisitions to support improvement and Champions League Football.. I also realize that the Champions league is an essential recruitment and retention tool, but anyone who watched the Premier League bloodbath today (Real Madrid 3- 0 over Man City ; PSG 5-2 over Chelsea) and the challenges yesterday coupled with Inter’s Bodo Glimt debacle should realize how demanding a full season plus Champions League Football can be.
Finallly, Serie A may yet get one of the extra “fifth” champions league spots.
Ederson would be great, if Milan are willing to spend the $$ to land him.
They need to get back the attacking depth they got rid of last summer. Look at tonight’s CL. You’re absolutely dead if you’re playing Milan’s turgid style.
