‘Come to Milan’ – Diaby and Fofana joke in social media exchange

By Euan Burns -

Youssouf Fofana and Moussa Diaby have shared a joke on social media about the former’s potential move to AC Milan this summer.

Diaby has recently moved to the Saudi Pro League from Aston Villa after a superb season in the Premier League and he commented on a post (as seen below) of Fofana’s to say ‘come to Milan my champion’, likely as a joke about the number of comments Fofana has received from Milan fans with a similar message.

Fofana then fueled the fire of transfer speculation by responding to Diaby with: “If you’re the one asking, my brother” with four laughing emojis.

It is no real secret that Fofana would like to join Milan as soon as possible given West Ham have offered AS Monaco the €35m that they want, but the move has not progressed because he is waiting for Milan to strike a deal with the Ligue 1 club.

The new offer from Milan is expected to be €20m, but it would also allow Monaco to collect 10% of any fee that Milan then sell him for in the future.

Considering Fofana will be leaving Monaco for less than his market value due to having one year left on his contract, and that he is 25 years old, Milan could well end up selling him for more than €20m in the future if he performs well.

      1. I think Monaco are being clever – they’re sourcing their replacements and making public noises about potentially holding onto the player, rather than accepting the money and then teams knowing the money they have available.

They also have relatively little to lose in waiting a bit longer to see if another UCL team is willing to offer a little bit more money, I can see a Tottenham or Aston Villa showing an interest. They know the player wants Milan, but if Milan pull out of the deal they can say to Fofana “West Ham or nothing”.

I still think they’ll come to a deal, hopefully by the end of the US tour, but I don’t think Monaco are being silly.

        1. They can say West Ham or nothing and he can say I’ll happily leave for free next summer. Where you get nothing from my transfer.

  1. So Fofana, Morata and Pavlovic are our new additions…

The big question for me is still the 8 Italians we need for the team. We only have 5: Sportiello, Nava/Torriani, Gabbia, Calabria, Terracciano. We need at least 3 Italians with fullbacks, CM/CDM and ST would be perfect additions. Kayode/Bellanova, Ricci/Rovella/Bove come to mind but ST except for Jovic termination and Nasti addition, I can’t see either Retegui or Scamacca joining us this summer.

    1. We don’t technically need to have them, we just use fewer registration slots – question is whether it’s worth spending money just to fill a slot with an over-22 Italian or former Milan youth player.

    2. Currently we still have

      Club-trained : Calabria, Gabbia, Pobega
      Association-trained : Sportiello, Florenzi, Terraciano

Players under 22 don’t count because they can join no problem anytime.

Technically we don’t really need 8. We can have only 6, but we can only register 23 first team players instead of 25 (which we did last season)

But now, with the injury of Florenzi which potentially season-ending (or even career-ending tbh) we can only effectively register 22 players for first team.

        1. We don’t need 8 Italians, but we can register extra players for both Serie A and UCL if we have them. There’s no penalty for registering fewer players and U21s don’t need registering.

And they’re not technically ‘Italian’, but players who spent four years in Italy before they turn 22.

    3. They’ll just issue a few Italian passports.

The quotas are a joke thus Calabria is the only regular who is Italian/youth player/captain,/Scudetto hero/best 1v1 full back in the world and the club is working tirelessly to get rid of him.

    1. Really hoping for that plot-line. But reconstructing our prime midfield in 2 seasons with minimal money that’s a bit impressive. double-pivot of Bennacer-Fofana with Reijnders as 10 will be unbeaten, in Italy at least.

      1. That’s my favoured midfield trio too… I really hope we get Fofana.
Then you have a hungry Musah & Loftus who should be pushing Bennacer and Fofana for their spots, there will be games for all.
Question is Liberali or Samardzic for Reijnders deputy at 10?

        1. I think since we are keeping Saelemakers, Pulisic will play as 10 from time-to-time. Liberali promotion would be special and less stressful. So after Fofana we have RLC and Musah and one Italian CM/CDM would make a difference.

  2. It makes sense both economically and quality wise to pay six million and sign Brescianini. We will have so many games to play and it’s better to be able to register 25 required players for champions League instead of less

    1. That’s also pretty smart, Brescianini as an extra, the 7th midfielder. Just need to upgrade Pobega to Ricci and I guess sell Adli.

      1. Why would Brescianini agree to come and be the 7th midfielder, when he can go to another club and actually play?
