One of the important things that Sergio Conceicao has worked on during his time at AC Milan is the fitness of the players, a report claims.
According to a report from La Repubblica, when Conceicao arrived at Milan at the end of December he found a squad that were not only struggling psychologically after a poor start to the season but also from a physical point of view.
The condition of some players has improved, the paper states. Mike Maignan has lost weight and his performances have benefited, while Luka Jovic is in top form after also undergoing a physical transformation.
The comments that prove it
Conceicao himself basically confirmed that he asked Jovic to shed a few pounds in order to try and help his performances become a bit sharper after the recent 3-0 derby win over Inter.
“Jovic has been working really well in the last 3-4 weeks. He also lost a few kilos, which was important. He gives us that little something we wanted for the match. He doesn’t give references to the defenders, he works well with the midfielders,” he said.
Speaking on the Kyle Walker Podcast, the 34-year-old revealed that he is enjoying the food out in Italy but it is important to remain disciplined when it comes to food, because Conceicao and his staff are watching.
“We get weighed every day. Your weight can’t change in a day. Even if you go out and have a big pizza or steak, it is not going to be drastically high so they ask ‘what have you been doing?’.
“If you have two or three days off you have to be a little careful because the manager is very keen on keeping the lads’ weight down. That is the way football is going. Every small detail matters.”
How do we get to a state where the players are out of shape? 😵💫
Another sign that we should keep Conceicao. He is doing what needs to be done to take a team to the top of their abilities. Thank you Mister I am with you.
People might not like comment here but we need to give him a full season. Bringing Conte or Allegri won’t solve the problems. I know Milan has never prospered with foreign coaches in the past except the great Swedish coach Nils Liedholm back in late 70s.
A new coach will not solve problems instantly, rather we need continuity. At any rate, we will not play Champions league next year so stick with him. If anything we need to get rid of few of the dead weights and keep your best players. If possible add an Italian center back and a mid- fielder to deputize Reijnders.
During Pioli era, the players were indiscipline and that led to many injuries which affected us from competing in major trophies. Conceicao and his staff are really doing a great job on the fitness.

This small fine details are what many fans are not seeing but he is making sure progress with this team. Hope the management will not lose him. With a pre-season and shedding of dead wood in this team, Conceicao will help Milan better
Our coach is ok. However he is always reactive, doesn’t quite get the lineups right. With that said, when he does make changes, they usually work out, which says he analyzes the game well in real time; much better than Fonseca.
I wish he would give young players like Liberali, Carmarda and Bartesaghi more chances, I fear we will lose our future.
This summer should be 1 high quality CM, 1 high quality CB (who can play on the left)
