Contradictory reports arrive as Milan look to replace the injured Sportiello

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are looking to sign a goalkeeper amid the injury of Marco Sportiello, who is expected to be out for months after undergoing surgery. However, contradictory reports have arrived regarding their pursuit of a replacement.

Sportiello sustained an unfortunate injury to his hand while in the hotel before Milan’s game against Manchester City. Surgery was required and while this was successful, it is believed that the goalkeeper will now be on the sidelines for several months.

According to Marco Demicheli, speaking to Sky Italia (via MilanNews), Milan have chosen Simone Scufett as the replacement and now just need to reach an agreement with Cagliari. Niccolo Ceccarini, on the other hand, is reporting that the Rossoneri are yet to identify the right man.

The one certainty, of course, is that a goalkeeper will be brought in before the end of the transfer window. Some fans have been calling for Lorenzo Torriani – who has impressed heavily this summer – to be the deputy behind Mike Maignan but it seems unlikely.

Torriani will need consistent playing time to continue his development and he can get that with the Primavera, or potentially the Futuro team.

      1. That’s two more outings for Milan than some new signing.

I do love how people on the hand seem to think that the level is so high that the incumbents could never ‘make it’ but so low that we can just bring in any old ransomer who has never trained with the club.

    1. Read well before commenting. Nobody said he hasn’t proven himself. He won’t have consistent play time in the shadow of Mike Maignan, that’s why they need him to play with the Futuro, where he will be the number 1 keeper and someday replace Mike. As you can see Mike is already getting bids from other clubs and might likely leave sooner than later.

    2. So do you want him to be the starter? Bench Maignan? Otherwise, he needs to go down a level so that he can play and develop.

      1. Not really, just curious how long usually player can prove himself to be in senior team, like Dollarumma in case you didn’t know when he started playing for the first team.

        1. A hell of a lot more than two preseason friendlies. Milan has a starting keeper, any backup will get, hopefully, no playing time. That’s the last thing a 17-year-old needs.

  1. Call back Mirante or call Antonio Donnarumma, at least he is an academy player, good for the Lists. This Managment don’t like to spend Money. So both players mentioned are ideal.

  2. We already have good talent from young squad. Torriani, raveyre. No need added more GK. Sportiello only injured for a month. better milan to sell the outcast players …

  3. I believe he can be registered with the Primavera/ Futuro and still training with the first team and regularly getting called up as deputy to Mike before Sportiello is back. Just merely training with the first team for a couple of months is a good way to develop certain aspects.

  4. I believe the reason why we’re still out and looking for an experienced keeper, is because our current number 1 is sadly injury prone, so they’ll want a proper cover between the sticks.
