Corbetta mayor fires back at Morata over privacy issue: “I got angry”

The saga of the day involves the Mayor of Corbetta Marco Ballarini and AC Milan striker Alvaro Morata, with the former now commenting on the issue.

Morata chose to buy a house in Corbetta, a town in the Milanese outskirts near Magenta, not far from San Siro and on the road to the highway to reach Milanello. There had been talk that he lived there and a photo with a fan from a bar there added to it.

Then the Mayor’s outburst confirmed it as Ballarini announced the news in an Instagram post, not realising the problems that this would cause for the Spaniard.

“The champion is our new fellow citizen. Here We Go! The Milan striker is finalising the paperwork for the transfer to his new (wonderful) home in our city. I am a huge Inter fan, but I am happy to welcome Alvaro Morata to our great Corbetta family!”

Morata in his response made it clear that disclosing the area he lives in is a breach of privacy and he suggested that he will now have to move away from Corbetta.

Ballarini spoke to Lunch Press on Radio Rossonera to give his take on the situation and to explain why he thinks that there has been an overreaction to his initial post.

“I haven’t heard from Morata, if he were to change house I would be sorry. However, it seemed like a slightly exaggerated reaction that brought me a lot of criticism,” he said.

“He has been in Corbetta for some time, he is very welcome. The rumours were going around, we made a post to welcome him, I also respect him as a person. We didn’t say the street, we didn’t violate privacy.

“It seemed like a nice gesture to me, it was a welcome from an Inter fan. Two years ago Onana bought a house in Corbetta, this came out in the newspapers and nothing happened.

“I am receiving insults from Milan fans, I don’t think I have done anything illegal. But I will move on, I will wait for him in Corbetta, I will respect his privacy and his safety.

“He made this story and I was sorry, moreover it had the opposite effect: it made this news spread even more. I repeat, we didn’t say the road. I got angry, he made me look like I had violated privacy. If he wants to go, rightly so. I’ll wait for him, if he comes we’ll be happy.”

Even though Ballarini is now trying to claim some kind of high ground, his reaction on social media to the news that Morata is leaving was to post the word “Bye” couple with the Inter logo, which perhaps says more about his character.

      1. Another clown that has important role in Italy, behaving like a child, posting insults on insta… incredible how people dont have a clue how to handle bad situations. You made a mistake, say youre sorry and move on. That insta story was so unnesecary and stupid

        1. Politicians should at the bare minimum be so wise that they doesn’t start up spats with people on the web but he probably feels more important than he actually is because and I say this without any great knowledge of the towns affluency but it has less than 20000 citizens.
He certainly doesn’t help his situation either by posting that Inter picture saying ciao on top of it. Anywho he is easily found if anyone wants to put up a tent in front of his house and irritate him 😀

    1. Anti Italy? Or is the xenophobic argument only applying to those criticising the management? You obviously know nothing about Italian politics besides what you could read about the stadium. To be clear I’m not defending that idiot nor any politician but Americans should care more about their own politics before judging other nations.

    2. If only we were all villagers, where we knew and respected our neighbors, took care of our place and supported each other as needed.

Saying that, this Mayor looks a real dumb^ss

    1. Now you are insulting farmers.
Farmers are good, hard working people who have no time for stupid social media posts. And they make the food on your table.
This guy is just an ordinary idiot.
