Corona makes claim about Tonali and withholding Inter players’ names in betting scandal

It has nearly been a year since Italian football faced a massive betting scandal, and Fabrizio Corona has stated that former AC Milan player Sandro Tonali should thank him.

Sandro Tonali’s move to Newcastle United broke the hearts of many Milan fans, but the transfer was overshadowed by the involvement of the midfielder in the betting scandal which caused havoc for Italian football.

Questions arose from the Magpies, asking whether the Rossoneri knew anything about the habits of their former player, and the relationship between the two clubs was seemingly rocky at one point. However, this has not continued into this summer, with the parties in contact over the potential sale of Malick Thiaw.

The biggest victim of the situation, without a doubt, was Tonali, who was banned from football last season, but he should be able to return in the early stages of the upcoming Premier League season, meaning there is finally light at the end of the tunnel.

Corona spoke to the 352 Sport podcast about his knowledge of the scandal, stating that he helped several Inter players whilst suggesting Tonali should thank him, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.

“The football betting case? I’ve always said it, I mention the names of others but the names of Inter never. And there were some. I did it out of personal interest. After all, I made that stuff public because I had to launch Dillinger, which in one day reached 300,000 followers and 2.5 million unique users a day. It became the most important news site.

“Tonali and Fagioli have me to thank. Fagioli would have loved him and he was penniless, now he is a millionaire again, debt-free and healthy.”

  1. If the players should thank him for his “generosity” then why not mention Inter-players so they could thank him too? Such BS.

  2. In yet another illegal case, inter or their players’ wrongdoings stayed hidden from the public.
Also, how is Tonali, without doubt, the biggest victim, in the whole situation?
He is the one that caused the situation. He is not a victim.
The only victim in this whole ordeal is Newcastle. They spent 70 mil on a player they couldn’t use.

    1. Well that’s a broad societal concern. Betting is an addiction but it’s not enforced much and it leads to problems like drugs or obesity. In Italy it’s a big problem but the state has not been able to address it. It’s starting to spread all over Europe since regulations have been lifted and betting companies are advertising more and more. Do you remember Milan wearing Bwin on the jersey? It’s the same impact as having Marlboro on Schumacher’s F1 on young minds. Marketing is based on early 20th Century research in psychology, from Pavlov to Trotter and they know how the humain brain works. It’s not about being a degenerate. I have good friends who are addicted to gambling and they’re respectable citizens, they work, they pay taxes. It seems ridiculous to me but they can’t control it, it’s a disease.

      1. I do agree the that the League takes an idiotic stand accepting partnerships with betting sites while the country as a whole can not figure out whether betting is legal or not…. “legal” vs “illegal” betting platforms… The whole thing is moronic.

Either sports betting is legal or its not …

    2. Look up gambling addiction.

      It’s a disease.

But sure take the side of a football club that’s owned by Saudi’s.

      1. I am not taking sides , I am looking at the situation objectively.
I couldn’t give a rats ass about Tonali or Newcastle.
Tonali was doing something illegal. Newcastle bought him without the knowledge of his illegal doings and spent 70 mil on him. If they knew about it they wouldn’t have spent a cent on Tonali. That’s why they are the victim.
Tonali is a millionaire who chose to illegally bet on games he played in on illegal sites.
        Betting isn’t illegal.
Tonali didn’t get suspended for Betting, he was suspended for Betting on games he played in. Every athlete is forbidden from Betting on games they participate in because they can influence the result. Same thing as insider trading.
But, I don’t expect you or the other dude that commented to be objective.
I wonder if you two would have been so understanding and look at the person as a victim if it was Gigio, Hakan, Furlani, Moncada or Cardinale that had the Betting disease. People that you have been hating for years.
Tonali is the perpetrator, Newcastle are the victim, Milan is the beneficiary.
        Very simple.

        1. « The other dude » 🤣

Damn you hate me so much because we disagree on a Milan website, I guess you would shoot me in the street if you had the opportunity. Keep living in your « very simple » world where « objectivity » is your own personal opinion.

          1. You are not that important for me to hate you or even think about you. Don’t flatter yourself.
And as usual, you can’t respond with any substance so you come up with invented scenarios in your head.
Tonali admitted his illegal doings. It’s not my personal opinion. He knew about his illegal doings before he agreed to take Newcastle’s money. Newcastle didn’t know about him being degenerate gambler.
            Newcastle is the victim.
If I sell you a car that has issues. You don’t find about the issues after I took your money. Am i the victim, the car or you?
Try for once to use logic, reason and rational, and look at facts, not your feelings or convictions.

          2. “Damn you hate me so much because we disagree on a Milan website, I guess you would shoot me in the street if you had the opportunity. ”

Once a drama queen, always a drama queen.

          3. I was reacting to your “degenerate” but I guess you don’t want to have interesting debates because your own opinion only matters to you. Denying decades of sociology and psychology sciences with close-minded obscurantism. You nailed your choice of username, “Z”.

          4. But you haven’t been objective in your distaste for Milan’s management even for a minute. Even when they get things right, even the Pavlo signing (paying less than the selling club requested when you so openly criticize low-balling offers on other players), or the favorable signings last summer.

It’s always “this management sucks”… Always very one-sided. It’s unrelated to the Tonali debate, more of a general observation.

          5. @ ACM1899 this is not related my friend and there is no such thing as being objective about the management, it’s all about personal opinions which is the purpose of a comment section. We are talking about Tonali, in the end I agree that Newcastle is a victim in that case but it’s not like Tonali is an international terrorist, it’s also true that he has a disease that is very well documented and that is a societal issue.

  3. Yet is absence made a huge difference in 2 clubs and 1 country.

It is no longer hidden to us we are still struggling replacing him after spending more than 70 mil paid for him and Newcastle suffer last season not having him around same with Italy.

      1. Not sure it could be considered as a penal issue, he could say to authorities that he was lying on the podcast, which I don’t think is a crime, especially since he doesn’t give any name so there is no third party involved here. I don’t think Inter would sue him for defamation since they probably don’t want the players name to be released.

        1. Well at the very minimum I’m fairly confident to say that he will be interrogated by the right authorities.
If Inter doesn’t have any players who gambled then its clearly in their own interest to have his comment debunked otherwise they will have a dark cloud hanging above their heads in regard of their credibility.

    1. Tonali is definitely NOT the victim here. Don’t like the brits but Newcastle got hard done here.

I mean that dumb@$$ bet on Milan games. Just nuts …
