CorSport: Fonseca gives green light to Milan’s Leite pursuit

By Euan Burns -

New AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca has endorsed the club’s pursuit of Union Berlin defender Diogo Leite and the move could now progress quickly.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News), the Portuguese coach would like to see his compatriot join the club and add some more quality depth to the defence and the Rossoneri will shortly act on their interest.

Milan will start negotiating with both the club and the player to get a move off of the ground, with Simon Kjaer’s departure opening up the space for a new defender.

The main strength of Leite is his height, as he is very adept at winning aerial duels. If he and Malick Thiaw were to play alongside each other, Milan would have serious presence in the box.

Whilst efforts will begin to make the move happen, the focus is still on signing Joshua Zirkzee before anyone else as he is the main target for the whole summer transfer window and there will be more competition from elsewhere.

Milan may offer €15m for Leite and see what the response is, but Bayer Leverkusen are in the frame which means the price may end up a little higher than that figure.

    1. Moneyball buddy…when you consider Pepe is in the squad aged 41!!! And he isn’t!!

But wait, all the moronic Redbird sycophants will give reasons why Buongiorno is better suited to Napoli……laughable how they play factual gymnastics to justify our club being ruined

  1. We already have Kalulu, Tomori, Thiaw, Gabbia, Simic and Pellegrino. Makes no sense to buy another CB unless we get rid of two of ours. But even if we do sell 2 defenders doesn’t make sense to get rid of average players just to get another average player. Either get a great defender or stick with what you have.

    1. This moneyball bs its only about laundry money dude. The people behind this crook Cardinale that actually is just a regular slave that only laundry their money, are crooks that were hiding their real gains and now they have a problem.Behind all these so called transactions its just laundry money. That is actually the italians fisc were searching for and they will keep searching.

    2. Out of all those names Tomori is the only top level CB. Thiaw has potential but was HORRENDOUS last season. Kalulu and Gabbia are average at best. Simic is still an unknown.

  2. Dang so much for getting Buongiorno. Unless this is a secondary option but I doubt it. Really hoped they’d fork out for one of Serie As top defenders but I guess we’re still doing the mid level thing

    1. If that’s one of the main reasons to pursue Leite then I would see selling Simic who is two-footed as insanity and against every statement that this management made about focusing on youth and primavera players.

      1. I’m against his sale but you can understand him wanting to move to get more first team football. Maybe Fonseca can integrate him better.
