CorSera: ‘Allegri or even Pioli’ – Fonseca ‘not in question yet’ but doubts present

Paulo Fonseca led AC Milan on a fantastic pre-season tour of America, but so far, these performances have not translated to Serie A with a loss and a draw so far.

Everything positive about pre-season has seemingly disappeared. Tactically, Milan looked like a completely different squad in many aspects. From the press to possession, there was conviction in their play. Yet in Serie A, this cannot be said.

The Rossoneri lacked any signs of anything promising in their two opening fixtures and often looked lost – something which also translated into Paulo Fonseca’s press conferences according to a report. Following this, questions are being asked.

Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez have not shown themselves properly, and they are not the only players to struggle in this new system. With this in mind, this weekend, there must be changes.

It is a worrying position to be in, when after two games questions are being asked of the manager, but a report from this morning suggested that conversations are taking place about the possibility of Massimiliano Allegri residing on the Diavolo’s bench.

Similar suggestions are being made by Corriere della Sera (via Milan News), and they write that there are calls for the former Juventus manager, or perhaps even Stefano Pioli. So far, Fonseca has not delivered on expectations, and whilst there is time to change this, things must change very quickly.

It could be Fonseca, Allegri or Pioli, this team should and would win Seria A and go deep in Champions League.

Osimen is €60m and 10m pa (Inter pay Laturo M and they are heavy in debt, why can’t we do the same and if Leao wants parity step up his game, give him a goal/assist bonus

        1. It maybe rubbish in your opinion, but it’s the best Milan have, it’s always easier too knock something done then it is to build it.

Did a Saudi club have Napoli accept a bid for €60-65m, unlike the Saudi club, Milan is the perfect platform for Osi in Italy & Europe and he has high quality players supply him from the wings and middle of the park in Leao, Pulisic and Rijnders

          1. It’s not the best.. because
            A) you can’t play a 433 without a proper dm. We have no proper DM.
            B) Emerson is a very far cry from the best we have, at this point might as well just put empty boots there.
            C) napoli paid almost 80M for Osi, if you think they’re gonna sell him to rivals for 60M you should make an appointment at the nearest psychiatrist, because brah you’re living in some high grade delusion..
            D) Milan brought in Morata to be the main ST, even if they had the money they wouldn’t cash out on a striker and then have a 10M gross salary player on the bench.

  1. Regardless of what happens Allegri should never be Milan coach again. Tbf he should never coach again in Italy if I had it my way.
Milan’s main men are clearly not fit ie theo and leao. They are not firing just yet so hopefully that changes soon. The midfield needs Fofana from the first minute to solidify that midfield and Loftus is an impact player off the bench, not a starter. Puli n10 chuk on right and jovic to start with okafor an impact sub.
I hope fonseca turns it around for Milan’s sake but jeez the way the team has played makes pioli look really good right now.

  2. Pioli is coming back guys..😂 this cheap management won’t pay two coaches off and then hire a third. Prepare to be a laughing stock. Plus allegri will command a high salary..

This is what happens when you don’t get best in class, you end up with multiple coaches on the payroll while trying to find the next cheap one..In that instance may as well just hire an elite one in the first place

    1. The sad thing is we don’t need the best option. We just a need a better option. Going from dropping Lopetegui with the holy reason of hearing the fans input to recruiting Fonseca was surely a good joke. Joke so good that we can’t laugh anymore.

  3. The precedent is to give coach time. Pioli got time again and again in the last two years. Milan isn’t gonna fire fons unless we continue to play like shît through September and lose games.
Also these people hired fonseca so whoever they’d bring in in a hypothetically replacement would be very questionable unless it’s a solid name. Max if anything but solid, he’s the exact opposite of what the people in charge supposedly want from a Milan coach.

  4. Italian media is ridiculous. 😂
I can understand them throwing Allegri’s name out there, he is available, he has Milan connection, especially with Zlatan, and also he is someone who can actually fix Milan defensive problems with his park the bus tactics, but whoever thought of writing Pioli should be fired.
Why would you bring the coach who you fired for the still existing problems while he was there? If he was capable of fixing them, those problems wouldn’t have been there in the first place.
Milan problems are still related to Pioli. Milan players need to unlearn the old so they can learn the new.
The problem besides the laziness of their “stars” is that most of the starters are still playing Pioliball.
If people watched Milan pre season, when Milan mostly played backup and youth players, you could see a different style of football. Since the return of the starters from vacation, after missing most of the pre season, they operate based on Pioliball. Milan struggled defensively less vs Torino, when they had Saelemaekers at LB, RLC in double pivot, Chuk at RW and Pulisic at 10, than vs Parma when they went back to Theo, RLC at 10 and Pulisic back at RW.
It’s a new coach, and it will take some time to implement his system. Conte just got his 1st win in his 3rd official game with Napoli after being outplayed by a serie b team in Copa and destroyed by a team that will most likely get relegated.
    Everything takes time.

    1. That’s what I’ve been saying – the players look like they are hung-over from the Pioli days. It’s gonna take a minute to break them out of that mind set and drill some discipline into them.

This thing will take time. Always does. Even Allegri had one point from his two first games at Milan when he took over then ended up winning the Scudetto.

  5. Fonseca built the best defense in Ligue 1 with Lille on most of the stats. He is an excellent coach and his teams are well balanced.
Getting another coach would just give another alibi to the players. Responsibility to the players.

  6. I hope that Fonseca hasn’t lost his imagination, because now I’m really interested in which first eleven names will take the field next round !?🤔

  7. I would take Allegri any day over Pioli returning. I doubt that we will change coach so soon but if the poor results continue then it will happen again like we did with Giampaolo. Sigh! 🙁

I prefer Allegri over Pioli because Allegri is a proven winner and when given the right players he will win trophies. Last season Juventus won a Coppa Italia trophy. A trophy Milan hasn’t won in decades.

Yes, Allegri football is boring but he gets results and I honestly think that with our wingers and Morata leading the line we will play a low to mid block and on the counter attack which is probably the best solution for this team.

so yes to Allegri and a big no to Pioli returning to Milan. We need a tough manager who can control the dressing room.

Pioli lost the dressing room last season and now Fonseca is already doing the same after only 2 games.

The players are not tracking back and not being disciplined enough with their positioning. That tells me that they are not doing what the coach is instructing them to do.

    1. I’d rather go get drunk and puke my guts out than watch what allegri calls football.
Can’t we get a proven winner that plays good football?
Why would anyone want allegri in their club?

  8. This is why we need to build a team with successors in line to learn from the previous generations of veterans concurrently. This management looks at algorithms on paper, performance statistics and don’t understand the value of cumulative time or team building. I didn’t go at their necks for the sake of being negative. There is room for analytics to discover and scout players, to identify them, to rely on them solely to dictate your entire recruitment strategy and team philosophy, while omitting the most important details, such as team chemistry, is shooting yourself in the foot, or worse, in the forehead.

Anyone expecting this team to come out the gates firing on full cylinders, this year or the last, with the circumstances surrounding our club over the last 4 seasons are delusional, uneducated in sports management or misinformed, maybe all the above.

The money you make or save letting a Hakan or Kessie go, finding cheap alternatives to the likes of Giroud and Ibra, will cost you inevitably, more than you generate by selling Tonali. This isn’t baseball, football is way more intricate as every decision by one player simultaneously effects the other almost instantly. It isn’t a static and slow paced game. Moncada and Furliani are just another extension of Elliot, as Redbird has the same people advising them and calling shots with no understanding of Football.

Sure we had plenty of players on international duty this summer and the previous one, this wasn’t announced unexpectedly. This was a known factor that had to be mitigated 3 years ago. Maldini wasn’t telling them to loosen the purse and give him more funds to retain our core and add to it progressively for nothing. There are cycles in team building and when it is time to act, you have to do so preemptively not in a reactionary, theorical realm. It has to be done in a pragmatic one with urgency.

Here we have Fonseca scapegoated for inheriting a team that was decimated for 4 years. Overused players because they didn’t get the pieces we needed to have a cohesive unit with depth, filled as as hodge podge last season, with a lack of proper investment. When RLC is your attacking midfielder and Fofana is your only midfielder that knows how to defend and distribute, there will be holes all over the field. Especially when we add players late in a window. An extra 2 weeks of preparation, even 10 days, is the difference between pulling from behind in a season over months on end, it affects the psychology of your players.

Put Carlo at the helm or Klopp, with the management dictating the same decisions they made, the result will be the same. I wasn’t convinced by Pioli nor Fonseca, the issue is the problem is way above their heads. Bankers are not sport people. They have to make decisions in consequence to the qualified people in this game, not come up with models out their backsides that work only when you are extremely lucky.

  9. Bring Pioli back is better than Allegri. I know Fonseca will fail since he sent Kalulu somewhere & bring Emerson Royal. How could you do that shit

  10. Fonseca is a very mediocre coach. Pressing so high exposes the team to counterattacks and wastes a lot of energy. It seems that the players don’t respect him. I am pretty sure that Fonseca will be gone in a few weeks

  11. Lmao at Allegri and i doubt Pioli want to go back after the management fired and treated him like trash.

    Get Klopp.
