CorSera: The background on Milan’s pursuit of Rabiot and why he said no

Adrien Rabiot is still without a club a few days into September but he appears determined to pick the right team to join next, having rejected an offer from AC Milan.

As Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes this morning, Rabiot remains a free agent after his contract with Juventus expired on June 30. The Frenchman did not accept the offer of a renewal from the Bianconeri, making it clear that he felt the time was right to try a new experience.

Not only that, but Milan came forward with an offer – as we reported exclusively a few days ago – and yet he rejected that as well. Geoffrey Moncada made it clear how much he wanted his compatriot and told him he would become a leader in the dressing room, yet alas it was not enough to convince him.

Rabiot instead has been waiting all summer for top Premier League clubs to come forward but none of them did, and now the transfer window has closed not only in England but in virtually all of the top leagues around Europe.

Given that he is a free agent he can join any club at any time but many sides will feel their business is done. Galatasaray showed an interest but the 29-year-old is now considering going to play in Saudi Arabia where Al Nassr – Cristiano Ronaldo’s team – have a €20m per year deal ready for him.
