CorSera: Backs against the wall amid Milan’s worst season start in over a decade

Two games in and AC Milan already have their backs against the wall, as highlighted by today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport. With Lazio up next, Paulo Fonseca will have to turn things around completely to avoid a full-blown crisis.

As the newspaper wrote (via MilanNews), few would have predicted the struggles of Milan given the pre-season and the easy’ schedule at the start of this season. Yet, on August 25, the Rossoneri find themselves with their backs against the wall.

One point in two games is the worst start to a season since 2011-12, but the main issue is how this has come about. The team lacks ideas and endurance, almost as if Fonseca had arrived at Milanello a mere two weeks ago.

The truth, however, is that they have been working together for over a month and a half and there is little to show for this. The positive pre-season results were certainly misleading as Milan have taken not one, not two, but three steps back at the start of this season.

On the other hand, having the crisis now is better than in the heat of the season, but this could also quickly turn into a nightmare. A solution for the defence is yet to be found and without it, the Rossoneri can kiss the second star goodbye.

Parma really exposed the struggles at the back, creating a chance every time they went forward, and Milan were rescued by the new signing Strahinja Pavlovic on more than one occasion. The big stars, meanwhile, failed to impress once again.

  1. Well as long as we have all these cardinale-istas we will be on this path for a long time.

Look at the quality of signings we are doing. It’s just not good enough. Moratta is really not good enough we should have got someone allot better. Fofana is OK and povlavic is only slightly better then our current defenders. It’s not like we’re calling van dijk off the bench but povlovic is OK and Emerson and franseca… like what is the game plan here exactly.

Maximum spend on any player is 30-35 million… why. Why so cheap. Athletico signed alveraz. Look at the difference in quality there. We signed an athletico reject and they sign one of the best players of champions previouse league winners best attackers…. we needed that allot more then athletico did. We need top players for positions THEY Have neglected for such a long time.

Funny thing is we didn’t even need to do all these random signings. Just improve on what Maldini already did we had a good squad you just needed to maintain and invest in it and we would have won a champions league by now.

    1. A Madrid have a first team squad of 23 (numbered 2-24) and they signed 4 players this summer one of whom was Alvarez.

That’s typical of most teams in la liga where there’s greater focus on the transfer market.

It’s not about money. We have whatever we have. It’s focus. And if we have less then that’s all the more reason for more focus.

  2. We have what we have and many kids there which can play but not with this couch. Problem is because exept few guys many not run,not try help others, not hungry for make win. So one way is here better couch and put our stars on bench,or sell stars and grow up new team with players what we have. This couch not gave any chaince for Italian players at all. Not buy Italian players at all,so what we exept some Leao or Emerson or Theo will fight for club, after 1 or 2 years 😂😂

    1. Agreed.

Again that is what teams in Spain tend to do.

They tend to build around a domestic players, and they back their youth players.

If we have limited money all the more reason to support our youth. At least as much as we support the likes of Musah and Adli!
