CorSera: Fofana wants his future decided within a week – Milan on alert

By Euan Burns -

AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana does not want to spend much longer not knowing which team he is playing for and would like a move to be sealed within the next week.

As reported by Corriere della Sera (via Milan News), the French midfielder has put AC Milan on alert as they are trying to come to an agreement with Monaco over his transfer.

Fofana has already got an agreement on personal terms with Milan which means that it is specifically the transfer fee that he has grown tired of.

He has one year left on his Monaco deal and it seems almost certain that he won’t stay, but he wants to know where he is going.

Monaco are continuing to ask for around €35m and Fofana is expected to be back in training on August 1.

If no move is sorted by then, it will be intriguing to see whether Fofana will opt to miss training in order to force a move.

Fofana is not the only midfielder that Milan are being linked with right now but he is certainly the one that they want the most, with there being a strong belief that he can immediately raise the level of the team.

    1. There is no other alternative for Milan.
Moncada and Furlani know this they just see their own deficiency to land great player for Milan and go for something less than great. While our neighbours go for great players
Watch Inter, Juve Roma and others!
The season will be another failure like the last an No Trophy’s again!

  1. If he is truly the guy we want then offer 20 mil. I wouldn’t go above that for him. If not get Amrabat, but get it done this week. Sick of all these click-bait articles that keep contradicting the last one. I know you need content but if there’s no news , just leave it alone.

    1. Agreed. If a deal can’t be struck for 20M, maybe 22M max, then go for Amrabat, who can probably be had for 12-15M, which is right on Milan’s reputed opening offer for Fofana.

  2. Milan buy smart. Bennacer could be our strong “signing” this term so Fofana could be change for someone new in next term.
There are so fish in the sea….

  3. Milan has walked away from ultimatums in the past, they will do it again. They want to do things their way. Let’s not hold our breath, start prepareling for someone else to arrive…

  4. If true, it is unfortunate that a player we value is essentially p us to 💩 or get off the pot.

Player wants to play for us. We string things out long enough that they say, “yo, y’all want me or not.” Simply not a good look for us.

As someone who is pro-mgmt and finds the anti-mgmt rants generally ill informed and laughable a situation like makes me question basic strategic and tactical behavior.

Biz need is a big bruising DM profile (I get Fofana is not exactly that)

We want Fofana. Fofana wants us. Price is too high. Negotiate in good faith. Price remains too high. Okay either adjust the budget based on level of need or move to plan B (which should look nearly as good as plan A).

Given the extra 27m from Zirkzee to Morata, we can assume there is room to increase but maybe not enough given other targets.

That’s fine but then drop a “luxury” target such as Royal or Lazar if Fofana is the guy.

Hell surprise everyone and swoop for Ugarte. Then predicate Pavlovic on the sale of Thiaw or commit to bringing up a youngster regularly for both development and bench depth.

Morata + Ugarte alone would be a pretty slick Mercato.

With the addition of a prime DM, now we can let a mid go.

Note my language. Rather than sell-to-buy we buy-then-sell.

    Given
    * our current weak (relative/realistic to EPL) state
    * Inter is just treading water this year, but we are far more healthy financially than they

A summer of Morata and excellent DM along with securing Theo and maybe Mike means we are competing for the Scudetto.

With the depth of squad we added last summer we can compete in the Copa for the trophy. We can then also work to ensure our squad gains valuable UCL experience and revenues.

So what has me concerned is the idea we are looking to add 5 new players in that 20m range in lieu of 2 or 3 in the 40m+ range.

So far it’s not the Mercato I’d expected and I’m at a loss on strategy as it relates to being more competitive this year and _even more_ competitive the following season.

But that is also why I’m a tech guy and not a club director.

  5. Yep after the fans then the selling club presidents, now the targeted players are also getting frustrated with the situation. Next is Ibra is frustrated with Cardinale and wants additional funds within a day to complete the deals!

  6. Now all of u that were criticizing pioli, will understand where the problem is coming from, is not possible to drive a car with bad engine and arrive to destination at the right time. Milan management have serious problems when it’s comes to money they are very stingy remember the negotiations of Julian Alvarez, Arda gula, Turam and many more.

    1. Sorry. I was (am) a big fan of Pioli. But your analogy breaks down completely.

If Pioli was driving a car last year, then we had issues with the brakes (defenders). Instead of using brakes, he put dinner plates in for rotors (Musah, Theo at CB, etc) thinking they were ceramic too.

It was clear even to me – a fellow bald dude – that Pioli simply could not learn to trust other players even when they clearly showed they were capable.

      – Simic at CB
      – Jovic and Ok4 at ST
      – Barts at LB to some extent.

Further he attempted to run tactical set ups so complex that even his players couldn’t pick them up over an entire season (Chuk).

I predict something of a Renaissance for Calabria on the simpler system of Fonseca. I predict Theo getting a rest more often and being far more effective because of it.

If we end up with Jovic and Ok4 as our backups then I predict we will see them start in tandem rather than than as a clearly mis-cast target man.

      Etc etc etc.

Pioli was “stubborn” and it cost him his job. I hope he’s learned a bit of humility and is successful in his future roles because of it.
