CorSera: Milan resume pursuit of Frattesi and Milinkovic-Savic in bid to rebuild midfield

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan must now rebuild the midfield after the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United which seems to be very close, and there are a couple of targets in mind.

According to Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) the name that is being mentioned with the greatest insistence in ‘Operation Replace Tonali’ is that of Davide Frattesi of Sassuolo.

Tonali and Frattesi both have Giuseppe Riso as an agent, but despite this Inter are on pole position to sign the latter. Until they complete the sale of Marcelo Brozovic to Al Nassr they cannot afford the deal though.

Milan could thus hijack the operation as they have a lot of money at their disposal. A definitive agreement with Newcastle has not yet been found, but at least €80m are expected to come in and thus Frattesi’s asking price would be easy to meet.

However, the paper adds that the Rossoneri management are following Sergej Milinkovic-Savic with great attention, given he is leaving Lazio. Juventus is currently ahead of everyone, but even in this case the Rossoneri could overtake the competition thanks to the funds that will come from the sale of Tonali.

  1. Milan needs to pay Elliot part of loan.

I am the best in true writing and informing about Milan club handling.

They will modify midfield but with cheap alternatives.

    1. This owner has money and is a serious businesman. He needs to see a solid business plan, align operations to it and all of it has to have a good ROI. American corporations don’t think with hart, they rather use brains. So trust the system, we are on a good track climbin up… there are no instant solutions to anything.

      1. I agree, if this was Monopoly or some business game. But it is football, it is passion and love and it is un-predictable. Something Americans will NEVER understand.

    2. You don’t understand how finance, accounting, and shares work.

Milan do not have any debt to Elliot (Milan debt should be at around 12m right now). It is Redbird who have debt to Elliot!!!

Redbird cannot use Milan’s money to pay that debt unless they take it as dividend. But Redbird plan to inject 1 billion for stadium building. It make no sense taking dividend when they have to put the money back as taking dividend means paying taxes.

      1. Thank you! A sensible comment. This “selling off players to pocket the money” is 90% of comments on here at the moment and it makes zero sense.

Their strategy may be wrong about how interchangable players are, but their plan isn’t a quick fire sale and run to the hills, because you wouldn’t pay a billion dollars for footballers worth 300-400m…

        1. Good to notice that at least two other persons know how things are. The club’s accounts aren’t something the owner can empty out just by calling the bank teller to make a transfer because there’s this one expensive call-girl coming over.

  2. Neither of these will sign.

Two hopeless nobodies from Ligue 1 will be brought in for a combined 20m.

    The Americans need to go.

  3. Davide Frattesi yes, he is better then Tonali, SMS please NOOOOOO. Let’s go for the Arda Güler instead who is a steal at the moment for ~EUR18M. We will have money left for another one, and with Benacer coming back at some point we will have a really good midfield. Find another one that is like Gatusso in the midfield, there are plenty and they don’t cost a lot. SMS is overpriced, overvalued, he has a bad personaliity.

    1. Fratesi is not better than Tonali, they have different role. Tonali is more similar to Gattuso. So just like you said, if Tonali leave, we need Fratesi + Gattuso-like midfielder (not SMS) to complete the midfield.

      1. “we need Fratesi + Gattuso-like midfielder (not SMS) to complete the midfield.”

You are assuming that the midfield has to have a player with Tonali’s abilities/attributes. No it doesn’t. It’s all about team work and have people interact with others. One team might have two pirlo-esque midfielders to completely dominate the pitch match after match while another team can do the same with two gattusos. There is no rule in football that says, you need two have two defensive midfielders, a right-footed left winger and a left-footed right winger.

It’s all about the chemistry and teamwork. Not about predetermined roles. Teamwork. The ability to bring out the best of everyone.

        1. But if your team only use two, one of them should at least be adept at defending otherwise it won’t be balanced.

  4. The only way i would be willing to try and forgive cardinale for the sale of tonali is if we buy SMS , fratessi and arda guler with the tonali transfer and thuram and chuckwueze with the budget we had alreasy ONLY THEN i will TRY to find a way to forgive this american idiot

    1. Why on earth would you want SMS cancer in Milan? There are many options out there. I seriously want o undertand why SMS????

  5. We need the best combo midfield right now. Since we have bennacer injured, Milan plan on redeeming this by having 2 of the best midfielder, with 2 good midfielder on the defense

with money we got from selling tonali, Red bird sure gonna make some new good investment.

our 4 anchors new season will be: Krunic, Bakayoko (buy 5m), Loftus-Cheek and roberto pereyra. we will win scudetto for new 7 years.

might as well get jesse lingard too

  6. Go for Amrabat please
    Have same position like Sandro
    1 year expiring contract
15-20 mil is enough for Fio
    Frattesi is good
    But not worth 40 mil
Or maybe can hijack Barella from Inter 😂

  7. It is the same thing like Chinese businessmen. If Red Bird can’t pay loan than Elliott can take Milan. So red bird is using ac milan account especially from net positive bilance to repay loan, because red bird don’t have the money if they don’t collect from somewhere

    1. No, the deal structure and agreement are different.

The debt used by Yonghong Li was not vendor loan, in the deal with Yonghong Li, if he fail to pay the debt at certain deadline, all of Milan’s share will be confiscated by Elliot.

Redbird use vendor loan with agreement that if they fail to pay the debt, the remaining debt will be converted into share of similar value. If the report that Elliot retain 30% share is true, it means Redbird pay 1.2B for 70% share, so if they fail to pay the 600m vendor loan, 35% will be given back to Elliot so Elliot will have majority with 65% while Redbird only have 35%.

      1. If Redbird inject 1B in equity for stadium building, the portion of their share will increase while the portion of Elliot’s share will decrease.

      2. Plenty of wise words and good explanation but… Unfortunately the same people keep repeating the same bs again tomorrow. No matter how hard to try to educate them. It’s like you’re trying to teach high school math to someone in pre-school. You’re wasting your time. 🙂

  8. Rebuild :)))))))))))))
Yes sell a world class 23 years old mildfielder and bring a decent 29 player, amazing rebuild.
I said before Cardinale is here to milk the club for more money, Mike,Theo and Leao will follow Tonali if not this season the next one for sure, then bring young players and sell again for profit. Maldini knew about this and didn’t agree because he wanted Milan to compete with the biggest teams and that’s why they fired him, Maldini would never sell Tonali. It’s sad to see Milan’s downfall… we won’t finish higher than 6-7th place

  9. I’m starting to pray that Milan actually buys SMS now just to shut every up about the “RedBird only care about money is here to sell everyone”-thing. Oh I’d love that.

      1. I’m starting to shift my fanboism from RedBird to Martin. I admire you and your witty and clever comments so much. I think you’re the best fan/commentator on this site.
