CorSera: Giroud has ‘one last great mission’ before saying farewell to Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud is in his last few months as an AC Milan player but there is something that he wants to achieve before he leaves, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan) reports that Giroud will not sign a renewal of his contract with Milan and, on the contrary, will leave the club at the end of the season.

The French striker of course has nothing against Milan and in fact feels a very strong bond with the club, but he has a life choice putting his family at the centre of his plans.

He will most likely move to Los Angeles FC (LAFC), a Major League Soccer franchise, on an 18-month contract. Giroud, therefore, will conclude his Milan experience after three seasons.

Having arrived in July 2021 from Chelsea for €1m, he was only supposed to be Zlatan Ibrahimović’s deputy and he ended up being much more than that, experiencing a second youth of sorts.

The 37-year-old scored many decisive goals, won a Scudetto in 2022 and entered the hearts of the fans. A love that was reciprocated.

This is why, according to the newspaper, Giroud has ‘one last great mission’ to carry out before he bids farewell to the Diavolo and the fans.

He wants to leave Milan with a trophy, namely the Europa League which he has already won, back in 2019 with Chelsea when he was top scorer in that edition.

Then, from June, it will be time for them to go their separate ways. Giroud will head for America where he hopes to stay for a while and transition into a director role, while Milan will sign a new No.9 with Joshua Zirkzee and Viktor Gyökeres on their list.
