The fall-out surrounding the future of San Siro continues to rage on, with questions asked about what will become of the facility if AC Milan and Inter leave.
According to Corriere della Sera (via Calciomercato.com), a ruling has been made that means San Siro cannot be demolished and instead can only be renovated in the future, with a constraint to be officially placed upon the structure by the Council.
The decision of the superintendent for the Lombard capital – Emanuela Carpani – was given the green light by all the Lombard superintendents gathered in the Regional Commission for Cultural Heritage in Lombardy, together with the general secretary of the Ministry of Culture for Lombardy.
Essentially, a decision had to be made on whether a constraint would be placed on the second tier of San Siro when it reaches 75 years of age, which will be in 2025.
Given that part of the prerequisite for Inter and Milan’s new stadium project next to San Siro involved at least partial demolition of San Siro, it means the plan is pretty much dead in the water.
Now a good number of members of the Yes San Siro Committee have expressed great concern for the future of the facility, should the two clubs actually decide to leave for San Donato (Milan) and Rozzano (Inter).
Spokesman Nicola Pelosi also took the opportunity to hit back at those who are celebrating the news of the constraint because of what it could mean for the other parts of the San Siro region.
“I was taken away because I expressed the opinion of someone who has always been in favour of the new stadium project which would certainly have redeveloped the whole area,” she said.
“Today we have to say thanks to the Fedrighinis, the Monguzzis [parent company of Europa Verde], the Giungi [Councillor] who immediately sided against the project to satisfy the environmentalist sides who today were the first to express great concern about the concerts that took place in the Maura and Galoppo racetracks.
“There were also 19 [concerts] at San Siro and if the teams leave Milan they will increase exponentially, and from April to October. In terms of traffic and acoustic impact, they are much worse than matches.”
Hi, can someone explain me if there is a way to comment on articles without having to write every single time your email adress and name? Like is it possible to register? Thanks
The only way that’s possible is for the site to add user profiles (account areas).
Football Italia added a really poorly made account manager and it was a complete botch job; now literally no one posts on there.
I think it was kind of their plan so that they avoid all the vile posts and try to become a more “serious” website.
Thanks, this is so annoying, why I cannot just create a user account and comment when I want.
I have also tried with the Jetpack app but not possible to comment. Weird.
I dont know if its down to me having posted here for so long and many times but my email and name is remembered by the site so when i press on the name* mine just turns up and the same with my email*
might also be down to your cookies settings if you completely delete all info like that all the time.
Those who voted for it should also pay for it..
That should do the trick
You read what you sow. Now you get an empty stadium that no one will rent regularly, need expensive maintenance and will host many concerts. And also lost a big part of City history- from home of Derby della Madonnina into mere old heritage building
As an outsider all I wish for Milan is a befitting stadium, every country has its on laws and system,on this am neutral
