CorSera: Juventus-Milan not just worth three points as Donnarumma could be the prize

By Oliver Fisher -

There are a number of interesting sub-plots going into Milan’s game against Juventus this weekend, but the one surrounding Gianluigi Donnarumma might be the biggest.

As il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes this morning, the game at the Allianz Stadium will be a true Champions League play-off, an instalment of the rivalry that is worth even more than the usual bragging writes. The confrontation between the two clubs continues to be influenced by off-field issues that cannot be ignored.

In all likelihood, whoever wins the qualification for the next edition of the Champions League between the two sides will have Gianluigi Donnarumma next season, a player who is going through a rather troubled period. Gigio is not calm after the meeting that took place on Saturday morning in Milanello with the Rossoneri ultras, but at the Stadium he will take the field.

Maldini has decided to “freeze” all negotiations for contract renewals until June, while Milan believe their offer of €8m net per season is the best possible offer and they do not intend to go further. Mike Maignan of Lille has already been secured as his potential replacement.
