CorSera: Maldini to say goodbye to Milan without drama – his pact with Elliott regarding pay

By Oliver Fisher -

Unlike his former colleague Zvonimir Boban, technical director Paolo Maldini will reportedly leave AC Milan peacefully and without a fuss.

According to il Corriere della Sera (via MilanLive), Maldini is highly unlikely to accept the proposal from CEO Ivan Gazidis to stay at the club but with his powers reduced.

The arrival of Ralf Rangnick means that the German will be both the head coach and the man in charge of the technical area, something which obviously overlaps with Maldini’s current duties.

However, his farewell will not be traumatic as happened with Zvonimir Boban. This is because Elliott Management have a pact with the former Milan captain whereby they will pay the entire salary of his contract – which runs until 2021 – to avoid any potential hostility.

It is a solution that pleases the Rossoneri legend, who is now intent on saying goodbye due to a diversity of views regarding the future running of the club.
