AC Milan’s current defensive crisis means the Rossoneri will be active in the January Mercato. Additionally, the club is looking to recall a Primavera graduate.
It is no secret that Milan’s current defensive woes have extended to a crisis. As such, the club has already begun contacting clubs ahead of the winter window.
Whilst Jan-Carlo Simic offers some cover, Theo Hernandez was preferred to sit centrally with Fikayo Tomori. However, doing so weakens Milan’s attack, given Theo’s prolificacy from wing-back.
As a result, the club are actively looking to recall graduate Matteo Gabbia, who is currently on loan at Villarreal, according to Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews).
The 24-year-old has been at the club since 2012 and has donned the senior Rossoneri shirt 51 times. The loanee was called upon 12 times in the 2022-23 Serie A season and contributed three clean sheets.
At Villarreal this season, he has only featured seven times in their 15 games and has only kept a single clean sheet. His lack of games only gives the Diavolo further reasoning to recall him.
I think Ben you meant Villarreal right?
