CorSera: Milan furious with Switzerland after Okafor injury – the reason

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have been left ‘furious’ by Switzerland’s handling of Noah Okafor over the international break, a report claims, after he returned with a hamstring injury.

This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan) recalls that Milan now have a a serious problem in attack because Olivier Giroud is suspended and Rafael Leao is injured for tomorrow’s game against Fiorentina, while Okafor is now out too.

The Rossoneri are unhappy with the situation surrounding Okafor. For Switzerland it was in their third match in six days and they had already qualified for the European Championships, so the staff are questioning why he was not permitted to rest. Instead he started all three games.

Milan did not plan to call up Francesco Camarda, who is not under contract and is under 16 years of age, meaning a written exemption was needed from local government for him to be eligible to play tomorrow.

Okafor is expected to be out for 20 days, which means the attention now turns to Luka Jovic leading the line and potentially Camarda coming on, who could become the youngest debutant in Serie A at 15 years, 8 months and 15 days, beating Wisdom Amet’s record with Bologna (15 years, 9 months and one day).
