CorSera: Milan will not appeal Giroud’s two-game suspension

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan have decided not to appeal Olivier Giroud’s two-game suspension. The striker will be out against Fiorentina and Frosinone, which is a big blow for Stefano Pioli considering the struggles in the No.9 role.

Giroud has scored seven goals this season and his deputies have struggled to keep up with him. Luka Jovic is yet to find the back of the net for the Rossoneri, while Noah Okafor has two goals to his name. The Frenchman’s absence, therefore, weighs a ton.

According to today’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), Milan have decided not to appeal the suspension. Giroud clearly said something inappropriate to the referee, having even apologised, and lodging an appeal would consume too much time and energy.

Jovic will likely be the starting striker against Fiorentina, and now is the time for him to score his first goal. Okafor is an option, of course, but he will have to cover for Rafael Leao on the left flank. The Portuguese winger is recovering from a hamstring injury, hence why he will miss out as well.

Giroud will be back against Atalanta and he will also be available in the Champions League. Seeing as Leao could miss the Dortmund game, the veteran’s presence will be even more important.
