CorSera: Injured Milan player could return much sooner than expected – the details

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan midfielder Tommaso Pobega could be back from his long-term injury layoff sooner than expected, giving Stefano Pioli another option to play with.

As has been reported by Corriere della Sera (via Milan News), the Italian midfielder is flying through his recovery programme much faster than the medical staff expected and he may feature in the team very soon.

Milan’s main injury emergency is over now with players like Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori in the first team again, but Pobega’s return would give Pioli another option in midfield which could be important with more Europa League games likely to be coming Milan’s way.

Pobega had an operation in Finland in December 2023 and was expected to be out until the back end of April, but he could be back in training by the end of March’s international break. That would mean being available, presuming the rest of the recovery goes well, a month sooner than Pioli had expected.

Whilst Pobega was never expected to be a regular starter in the Milan midfield this season, he is a very handy rotational option and he could even have helped at centre-back earlier in the season if he was fit.

  1. Musah is a nice little attacking distraction right during the last 20min of the game, when nobody has the energy or creativity to attack. He carries that ball so well, gives the opponents something to focus on whilst we wind down the game🤣🤣🤣

  2. Good to have him back.
He was probably having his best game of the season when he went off injured.

He could do a job as a more defensive midfielder

    1. No no, this is his worst position – the guy is more of an attacking central mid – thats what he did at Torino and did well – every time pioli plays him defensive he flops!

  3. There’s no rush. This guy plays as an extra man for the opposition- unless one of his wonder strikes happen to go in.

  4. He was playing good in that game before he got injured. Why do people wish injury on our players? Probably some inter fans pretending to be Milan fans.
