CorSera: Milan could reinvest funds from Tonali sale on two midfielders

By Oliver Fisher -

Newcastle United have come in strongly for Sandro Tonali and reports have begun to emerge about how AC Milan might spend the money they get from his sale.

According to Corriere della Sera, Newcastle first went after Nicolò Barella of Inter but have now switched to Tonali. While an official proposal has not yet arrived, the Milan management have ‘their antennas pricked up’.

Tonali is currently away with Italy at the U21 European Championships but has already been approached by representatives of the Premier League club willing to multiply his current €2.5m net per season salary.

It seems that an offer of €60m is being readied but that is currently considered inadequate by the Rossoneri, but if the bid presented contains a higher figure, a reflection would be necessary.

If the cash from the sale of Tonali arrives, Milan could get back into the running for Davide Frattesi and Sergej Milinkovic Savic, But in terms of image it would losing a symbol of the current era.

  1. Not worth it! – Dont sell, he is a symbol for the current project. We cant affort losing Maldini, Ibra and Tonali – OR Mike M for that matter.

    The untouchables should be:

    Leao
    Theo
    Maignan
    Tonali
    Thiaw
    Bennacer
    Tomori

    1. Tonali is not untouchable. Theo and Leao are. That’s it. Fact is our midfield was a big problem last season and Tonali was not up to the task of an every game starter. I know he’s Italian and a boyhood fan of Milan but he is overrated and is not the face of the franchise.

  2. I believe you are familiar with the phrase “Stick with the devil you know”. Not selling him in the hopes that we possibly outbid others on SMS or Frattesi.

  3. Ill snap if we sell tonali. If there is any player on this team that should be untouchable it’s him. He’s a die hard milan fan, he’s Italian, he has potential to Be a top class midfielder and he’s the type that will stay for 15 years. If we sell him off how does that look towards our image? Nobody is safe.

    1. Could not agree more. To sell Tonali as a player and icon of Milan’s resurgence would be brutal and pointless. He has his flaws, but come on!

    2. Bro, based on what you’ve seen so far, u think they care about icon status, being a die hard milanista and that sort of image?

  4. I mean, in terms of rumoured targets and current players, our options for the two central midfield spots if Tonali goes and Bennacer is out until next year are… Krunic and Pobega? I like both within reason but the quality drop-off there is huge.

  5. I love Tonali and have his Jersey. Would love fit him to captain this team. But if 80mil comes in for him you have to consider it at least. That’s a lot of money that could further improve the squad. Fratesi and SMS for Tonali would be a great return. ONLY if we can spend the proceeds on them.

    1. I’m sorry but I can’t see any real fan of Milan saying they would like to sell a future Milan captain. If anyone should be off limits it is the players that are fans of the club, along with being good players. They can probably get more money for Maignan, so why not him?

      1. “I’m sorry but I can’t see any real fan of Milan saying they would like to sell a future Milan captain”

I’m a real fan and I’d rather see Milan sell Tonali than Theo, Maignan or Leao. 80M€ for Tonali? FOR TONALI?! Take the money and RUN!!! He’s never worth that much. That money gets us 2-3 better players and improves the squad.

  6. I would rather sign Maignan for 90M and get the Croatia national goalkeeper with a 10M clause than replace Tonali. I love Maignan but since Milan is a selling club seems like there are no untouchable players. Leao, Tonali and Hernandez should be the top if there were unsellable players, Maignan right behind them. You don’t have many players that will reduce their wage to play for a club today, that should be valued more than a lot of other things. Not even to mention he is a player that grew a lot in 1 season and can become one of the worlds best…

    1. Exactly, good luck finding a player as good as him who will stay in Milan for such a low wage. Also he just turned 23, his career is just starting and he already is a top player. The kid has world class potrntial, people don’t understand that it will take a miracle to replace Tonali. Also Pioli tactics are limiting him… i guess you don’t know what you have until is gone.

  7. He is an American all they’re care about is making money 💰.
Acmilan gonna be like stock market to them, sale shares any time it possible, specially those guys are Maldini recruiting.

  8. At 80m, sell and reinvest. I’m sure we will find good DM players in France. It will be sad to see him go but the project will benefit if we can use that money wisely. He loves Milan enough to come back one day.

  9. One don’t sell and if the rumours persists put a statement for +100mil for him since he’s young, good enough to compete in any midfielder in Europe and a future captain of Ac Milan. And any team with integrity don’t sell their future captains unless it’s an offer they can’t refuse Milan need to start doing that.

  10. Seems the ownership can sell anyone for the right price, what about the club itself, are they not considering selling it for the right price too, any rumours please ????LOL

  11. Two players cant replace tonali. Big step backwards. Imagine how better hes going to be next season! He just gets better and better every season

  12. moneyball will use super intelligent data to replace him with a random free youngster from France / Begium
