Sergio Conceicao was able to breathe a sigh of relief as Santiago Gimenez broke the deadlock in AC Milan’s game against Verona last night. However, as pointed out this morning, the Rossoneri cannot continue on this path.
As highlighted by today’s edition of Corriere dello Sera (via MilanNews), the only positive thing from Milan’s performance was the fact that they got all three points in the end. A response was expected after the defeat to Feyenoord, but instead the fans got to see a terrible first half.
There was really only one big chance in the first 45 minutes, which was spectacularly wasted by Yunus Musah in front of goal. The players were rightfully jeered by the fans as they headed for the tunnel, once again failing to have the right mentality and attitude.
The Rossoneri managed to change gears in the second half, without overdoing anything, and found the winner through Gimenez. It was his first goal at San Siro and his second consecutive strike in the league.
Then again, as has happened so many times under Conceicao’s management, the difference was made by substitutions and the second half. Milan returned from the locker room with Rafael Leao and Alex Jimenez, who both created the move which allowed Gimenez to score the goal.
It’s clear that the top-four mission will be very difficult with these ‘half-performances’, as the newspaper calls them, and that can also be said for the return against Feyenoord on Tuesday. In short, the team still has a long way to go.
It’s very simple. We can’ t play without Pulisic and Leao and Jimenez.
I think it was one of the first games where the defense looked good. We didn’t create, but we also didnt concede. It was a very difficult match with Verona not willing to play football and a referee who whistles the match dead.
But Leao always stinks when he started, and only performs when he was subbed on in second half.
Apart from the win, Milan still play very slow and badly, if they don’t improve on Tues, I fear the worst.
Felix was a positive, always looking to get on the ball, he’s got some bite as well which I like. He gets stuck in. Gimenez’s finish for the goal that was offside was sensational. Pretty much everything else was cr@p
Yes but many things changed on positive.
We have now positive results. The biggest crises in Milan happened after defeat against Roma in Europe league. They couldn’t win anyone untill end of the season and that continued in this season.
Luckily they fired Fonseca. Because Conceicao keep pushing them.
Ok, they can play bad – but obviously still they can reach result. It is better to watch bad game play and still have result.
In serie a they must push hard for two reasons. First reason is if they reach Europa League, first team Lazio gained 20 million from that competition. It is difference of 40 million between ac milan revenue in ucl this season. But still it is smaller gap in loss if they reach 5th place.
Second reason is they need continuation in wins for next season.
Management will have some cards to reshuffle the team and next season is crucial in serie a to gain momentum and come back in UCL. Europe League should be lighter so better result in serie a is necessary.
Third reason is to keep pushing Lazio and Juventus and give them hard times in fight for 4th spot.
Even if we lose – let’s give them the pain.
Conceicao has to figure out how to field/combine Reijnders and Felix. Dutchman has 11goals to his name playing behind the striker… Gotta bake while the oven is hot.
For that to happen Leao needs to be disciplined and work! A more rigid 4411 with Felix off the striker….Leao has to play to a system l. Grealish did it…Henry did it
