CorSera: Milan’s ‘precarious balance’ holding back Scudetto challenge

By Oliver Fisher -

While very little criticism can be directed at AC Milan’s attacking department as they continue to score goals in bunches, the defence have been been up to task in recent weeks.

This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes how this season for Mila  is all about two numbers, which were updated after the last league game against Frosinone: 46 and 27.

The first indicates the number of goals scored by the Rossoneri in 23 Serie A rounds, which places Stefano Pioli’s team in second position for best attack in the league behind only Inter.

The second, however, is more serious and indicates the goals conceded by Milan, a statistic that places Milan in the bottom half of the table in the ranking of most goals let in.

Simply put, the attack is keeping Milan in games while the defence flops, with the paper describing it as a ‘precarious balance’. There is little to no balance between the two departments and it is virtually impossible to win the title this way.

At the moment the symbols of this two-faced Milan are Mike Maignan – who has had a couple of mistakes that were uncharacteristic – and Luka Jovic who is in great form and scored the winning goal on Saturday.
