CorSera: New men and leaders impress as Milan put Torino to the sword

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan made it two wins from two last night as they thrashed Torino 4-1 to take top spot, at least until the other teams have played this weekend.

Today’s edition of Il Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan) talks about the game that took place at San Siro last night. After winning and convincing on their debut in Bologna, the new Milan repeated themselves against Torino.

There were moments where Milan looked unstoppable against Ivan Juric’s side and it was certainly another test passed against a side that has in the past put Milan in difficulty.

There are five games against top Serie A sides in the next eight games so it was vital that Milan got off to a good start. The first of these is on Friday against Jose Mourinho’s Roma, then it will be the derby against Inter.

There is still something to fix in the defensive mechanisms, but Pioli’s plan works: compared to last season, the Rossoneri have gained in quality, quantity, speed and physicality.

The new players are integrating faster than expected. Pulisic scored again yesterday, while Loftus-Cheek dominated things in midfield. Positive signs also came from leaders such as Giroud, Theo and Leao.

  1. Only after inter will we see where we are. It looks decent at the moment but they are out test. Hope everyone. Returns injury free from international. Can already see the headlines maignan injured again on international duty

  2. We got what Pioli obviously wanted, players from the bench who can be worthy replacements. We still have periods in the game where we let the opponent dominate too much and that could be a problem for us against more serious teams like Roma and Inter in the next rounds! I’m happy to see the real Theo again and Pulisic is proving to be a great investment. I think that after the next two rounds we will be much smarter about the judgment of this team.

    1. “We still have periods in the game where we let the opponent dominate too much”

Not too many teams can dominate the match the whole 90mins, eh? Torino created zero chances. Even their goal was a lucky as the initial shot was severely misplaced and happened to land on Schuur’s reach. Torino “dominated too much”? They kept the ball for a minute or so and created absolutely nothing. Milan was 1000x superior in every aspect last night.

      1. With all due respect to coach Juric, but Torino doesn’t have players like Barella, Thuram, Dumfries and Lautaro Martinez! We have shown a jump in quality compared to last year, but I still stand by the fact that such stories about “a fantastic game that is 1000 times better than the opponent” should be left there somewhere after 4 rounds!

        1. “I still stand by the fact that such stories about “a fantastic game that is 1000 times better than the opponent” should be left there somewhere after 4 rounds!”

Fact? LOL. Nope. Opinion. And you have your right for that too.

Fact is that Milan were far, far, faaaaar better team than the opponent last night. Undeniable fact. That doesn’t change how much you’d value Inter over Torino. Still that doesn’t change – or contract – anything I said above.

  3. The way the team have started beside having so many new players is something I wasn’t expecting…..the only draw back was when we had substitute they were a bit out of touch chukuweuze, noah and musa. Obviously it will take a bit of time for them to gel but once they are firing all cylinders either we win title or not we will be giving every one a run for their money…..pioli should have played our academy player in place of theo rather than bringing florenzi these are the games where youngsters should be dropped in. A striker I suppose is must beside that we are good as we are….
