CorSera: Openda back in fashion as Milan could now invest in a striker

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are now thinking about investing in a new centre-forward again after missing out on Marcus Thuram, according to a report.

According to Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan), Milan have missed out on the signing of Thuram who has chosen to join rivals Inter, and that could change the strategy of the management with a centre-forward still needed.

Milan could now cool their pursuit of Davide Frattesi for example given that he would cost €40m, and more economic resources are needed for a striker, with Lois Openda of RC Lens back in the viewfinder.

He scored 21 goals and added four assists in 42 matches across all competitions last season and in recent days Bundesliga side RB Leipzig tried to get an agreement over the line for the Belgian without succeeding thus far.

That is mainly because he currently has an asking price of €50m, with Lens not rushing to sell after securing Champions League qualification.

  1. Desperate buyer with a lot of money.
    That’s what we are right now.
    Tonali’s money is “less” than we think. Every transfer we make will take fair share of it.

        1. Im already get used with galliani mister x at last minute mercato. Sempre milan reader probably never know about mister x so they get desperate even the mercato still not open yet

        2. LOL. So, Milan will sign players later? When all the good players with clauses and free transfers are solved? With which money? 😀

        3. I remember , i waiting till last , curious who is mister x that galliani bring. It bringing back old memory , just to get disappoint because it is aquilani . Wkwkwk

    1. Tonali was sacrificed for a 30 mil profit…. He was bought for 30-35 mil they sold him for 70 mil with bonuses which means it’s probably 60-65 mil from that amount Brescia will get a few milions too because there was a resale clause

      1. It is not how it works. In books Milan paid 5 million loan. Than 14,5 million is dividng on a period of contract duration. He was after loan 2 years at Milan so approximately 6 million went on depreciation. Around 8 million is in books. If Milan get 60 from Newcastle, capital gain is 52 million at least…

        1. What? The full amount was 35M, loan + transfer. Your idea is that the 35M depreciated to 8M value in 3 years? What? Your calculation is not even logical. Do your math again.

  2. Who is advising this Thuram guy is either selfish, idiot or both. In Milqn he would be a starter and a star in that position. Not sure how his future looks at Inter but wish him best of luck there

    1. Why would any good player want to come to this Milan? The club is obviously going down, sacking the directors, selling the best players, reducing the wages etc… Inter gave Thuram 5 mil the same amount we gave him yet he choose Inter because they are stable and have a competent management. You will see who they are going to convince to come to Milan this summer

      1. It is us, those who thinks that way! If you have seen, comments of their fans in their forum, you will know that they aren’t happy, about their situation either.. We blame Redbird and Cardinale, in their case you replace Redbird and Cardinale, with Suning and Zhang!

      2. Stable inter? 🤔 We offered 5mil I believe – Inter offered 6. And like a lot of people on here I think we dodged a bullet anyway. We’re still in the opening credits of the mercato so no need to start sh**ing out pants just yet.

  3. CdK with trivela pass from the middle of the field…. Openda receive it, he is 1 vs 1 with the goalkeeper!!! Openda fail to score (CdK does not get the assist)…

    It’s not Milan next season, it’s Belgium U21 few days ago.

  4. Like I said in previous posts – Now we will see the real Redbird. Will we actually spend some or most of that UCL (120M) money to buy a real striker now that we cannot get one for free?? OR will Redbird use another excuse that we “need” to sell another star player (Theo, Mike) to “fund” a deal for a striker. This is the test. 70M (less considering Brecia’s cut) is not that much with all the holes we needed to fill and now that includes a starting caliber striker. We shall see.

    Yes there is still time in the transfer window – but thus far we look like a fkn mess and it’s not surprising Thuram (or any other player who has other options) will look elsewhere. There is no concrete project any longer. Every player is potentially for sale. We are open for business. What was once one of our main selling points to a potential new player joining us – STABILITY – is now gone. Those who said it didn’t matter that Maldini was no longer here don’t understand sports or what he represented. Everything has an effect. If the club can sack in the most disrespectful and callous manner a club and football LEGEND – what do you think they would do to them? It’s human to think that way and common sense. So right now we are a mess Redbird must clean up and do so quickly or we not only risk missing out on other players we also run the risk of losing some of our existing ones as well.

    This far, Furlani (and Moncada) have managed to:
    – sack M&M;
    – sell Tonali;
    – miss out on Thuram (despite 3 weeks of negotiating) without knowing your rival was negotiating with him;
    – hasn’t signed Kamada;
    couldn’t convince N’D*cka to shun Roma for us;
    – most likely we will lose Frattesi to Inter; and
    – is entertaining offers for Mike and Theo.

    Again – it’s early in the transfer window – but it’s Not a great fkn start. It’s one thing to scout and identify a player like Moncada does – it’s another thing to convince that player to believe in your project AND convince them to often sign for LESS fees/wages than they would be able to get elsewhere. As we now see it’s not so easy as some thought it would be – especially when your two new directors have ZERO experience negotiating player transfers and that INEXPERIENCE has shined brightly. The “Fox” Marotta stole Thuram right from under the naive noses of Furlani and Moncada. Sad part is they didn’t even know of Inter’s interest – which tells me they lack the connections needed with player agents and other sources to get info the need to make sure something like this didn’t happen.

    It is NOT so easy to sign players as some people on this forum thought it would be that anybody can do the job. Just fire Maldini and a call from Georgio and Pioli will get the job done. LOL. Ya if it were only that easy gents. Sadly it is not.

    The only silver lining is that this CAN all change IF Redbird start SPENDING MONEY. We CAN buy a starting striker, RW, 2-3 mids, ACM, back up LB, etc…IF Redbird decide to use the UCL $$$ (120M) and the Tonali $$$ and BUY players. The question is not whether we can do so, it’s WILL they? And I don’t think that happens unless another player sale occurs. I pray I am wrong and we spend that UCL money….but I will believe it when I see it. Unfortunately This is the Redbird way.

    Stay tuned.

    1. Bro, the neutral part of me is saying let’s give them time and be understanding but my intuitive part of me is basically saying exactly what you’ve written 😭😭😭🍿🍿🍿 we went from the narrative of not being able to sell anyone to wait a minute are u sure we want to sell that one? Lol 😂.no agree with the part of negotiations, it’s not as easy to sign players as ppl think. So when they said we couldn’t sign Dybala etc well guess what …..
      I’ve already said we’re not making Europe next season, this season WILL be Pioli’s last and we’ll be selling our family jewels. But again, let’s see where we’re at come September

    2. JURO.. You know what you are doing? YOU are telling the truth. A grave sin here. YOu must either be a Maldini lover or a doom prophet according to these Cardinale bootlickers in here. Dont you know.. You are supposed to wait like a good obedient Cardinale bootlicker till the end of the season praising every move and watch that american tapeworm turn the club into a dumpster fire and fiercely dvocate for selling the rest of our stars because apparently, ‘Milan’ needs the money to ‘invest’ in Furlani who has the convincing power of a sewer rat covered in feces. lol

  5. @Juro
    But didn’t you hear about the problem Cardinale facing with redbird? He still need to pay 600mil for the sale which is late with payment so he will probably take UCL money to pay redbird and sell key players to rebuild the team with cheaper players. I hope this is not the case but putting price tags on key players like Theo should be a bad sign already. #CardinaleOut

    1. Yup – That’s exactly where that UCL money is likely going. Redbird owes 42M in interest payments per year for Redbirds (not the club – the club is debt free) loan debt (600m) to Elliot. So if Redbird doesn’t pay they default on loan and Elliot scoops up Milan yet again – which is why Elliot sold to Redbird over another buyer (such as Investcorp that didn’t want Elliot as minority owner) in the first place. If Rebird succeeds great, they retained a 30% ownership interest and if Redbird fail – great – Elliot will take back the club at a discount yet again. Brilliant business by Elliot. Not so much for us fans. So agreed that UCL isn’t going back into the club – only way to fund player purchases moving forward is via player SALES. That is the Redbird model.

  6. These guys ain’t ready to spend, or make salary offers that are attractive to players. We will most likely not get Frattesi. Won’t be surprised if they sell Mike. Hope we won’t end up with players that the coach will not be able to use next season. The cycle continues. Ultimately, these guys will sell the club, without investing much. That’s the way Milan’s RedBird adventure will end in the next 3 years.
