CorSera: Pioli must recover form of key duo to stop top four place from slipping away

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan now face a battle for the top four with the Scudetto dream having slipped away, and Stefano Pioli needs all hands on deck to avoid an embarrassing end to the season.

As highlighted by il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) this morning, Pioli’s team were amazing in 2020 but have collapsed in the new year, exhausted by continuous injuries and cases of Coronavirus.

Ultimately it is an almost freakish away form that has kept Milan afloat inside the top four as they have 12 wins out of 14 games on the road and only one defeat against Spezia. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his team-mates have not won at San Siro since 7 February (4-0 against Crotone) and have accrued 14 less points at home compared to away.

Pioli must take advantage of the fixture list in the next three rounds as games against Parma, Genoa and Sassuolo beckon, but the real mission of the Rossoneri head coach is to recover the decisive players in that stretch.

It seems the international break has fatigued Ibrahimovic and Calhanoglu who were both decisive in Florence in the last match before the break, and without their quality the Rossoneri have very little threat.
