CorSera: Pioli plans to alternate between two systems in 2023-24

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is set to stick with the four-man defence heading into next season but wants to alternate between two formations, a report claims.

As reported by Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), Pioli said in his first press conference of the preseason that he wants his Milan side to be able to have some unpredictability from a tactical point of view and to build on what has already been established.

The paper writes that Pioli has two formations in mind. He will use a 4-3-3 which was seen at times last season when Ismael Bennacer was the advanced midfielder such as in the Napoli games.

Pioli’s plan is to work on that system and alternate it with the 4-2-3-1 that has worked well in recent years and has brought about a lot of the success domestically and in European competitions. Preseason will be key for ensuring a seamless transition.
