CorSera: Sala scrambles to offer Milan and Inter an alternative site for new stadium

The circus regarding the new stadium project continues to give onlookers encore after encore, and now there has been another twist in the story.

According to Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan), Milan are looking into building their own stadium alone given the slowdown in the original plans to construct one with Inter next to the current San Siro.

The first alternative site looked into was at La Maura racecourse but that went away due to there being too many hurdles and too much opposition, and recently the idea of building in San Donato Milanese emerged.

The San Francesco part of the region – more specifically the spot between the A1 motorway and the Tangenziale Est, adjacent to the railway line – has emerged as a strong contender. The Mayor of San Donato Milanese, Francesco Squeri, met the club and confirmed the interest.

However, the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala summoned the leaders of the Council on Monday to put forward an idea that might see Milan and Inter stay within the city limits.

The site hypothesised is the Viale Puglie area, which is the land owned by Sanitaria Ceschina and which currently houses the Cirque du Soleil marquee.

There is flea market on Sundays but aside from that the feeling is that it could be a tempting proposal. However, there are concerns about the area being a bit small.

Sala explained in the meeting that as of today the possibility of Milan building the new facility in La Maura is no longer on the table, while for the ‘new San Siro’ idea the restriction that will be placed on the current stadium in 2025 is a real obstacle.

  1. Sala needs to be told to F*** off! They had their chances and they’ve done their best to postpone or even cancel the whole new stadium thing so the best thing for all is to just forget about it.

    1. Yup exactly. He’s been screwing with Milan since the cathedral project was presented and now that the rental fees seem to be going away now he wants to take action? No thanks.

Sesto or the new area in a lone project. That’s the way to go.

  2. Sala is an idiot on top of being corrupt to the core. If there is any way to avoid any and all further dealing with him, we should take it.

  3. Interesting. If this is true, and if we can build without Inter (anyway they’re broke), Viale Puglie is much closer than San Donato. I don’t know what they suggest with “the area being a bit small”. Anyway most people go to San Siro walking, by bus/tram/metro, or riding a vespa haha there is not much space to park around San Siro and it’s always traffic jam during gamedays for the few coming by car. Maybe they also want big parking lots now.

        1. He said it himself, he want Milan and inter to continue stadium sharing inside the city. It’s likely he want to keep the tradition.
