CorSera: Season could be over for Ibrahimovic as he suffers ‘serious’ calf issue

It looked as though Zlatan Ibrahimovic could make his return to the field off the bench against Lecce, but instead his season might now be over.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes this morning that after spending a month on the sidelines recovering from an injury sustained with the Swedish national team, Ibrahimovic was back on the bench against Lecce.

The Swede was warming up in the second half, ready to take the field, but at a certain point he felt a problem and had to retreat back to the bench. As per the paper, it is not a relapse of the previous issue but a new calf injury.

Not only that, but it seems to be serious rather than just a simple tweak, and therefore it is possible that his season may already be over. Given he is out of contract from the end of June, we may have already seen his last appearance as a Milan player.

  1. Professional career was over more than a year ago, but he suffered through it to lift Scudetto. Honestly, we shouldn’t have renewed him after that, and we definitely shouldn’t renew him now.

If he wants to be an assistant coach or something on staff, maybe a position in management, that is fine. But but his balling days are over. Have been of some time.

      1. He isnt even registered for UCL. If Milan wins UCL, Zlatan will not be part of it.

Can you imagine, Tata and Mirante will have an UCL under their belt, Origi 2, but Zlatan will still have none.

        1. tatarusano actually isnt part of the cl squad anylonger because initially maignan wasnt in the squad from january due to his injury but then was given compensation to return to the squad and replaced tatarusano.
If anything i would feel sorry for him if we actually win cl as he actually played some matches in the tournament for us.

  2. He needs to listen to his body and retire already. He should have retired on top last season as a champion, especially with his knee surgery and long recovery process that was coming.
He played a major role in Milan’s turnaround from dumpster fire, back to relevance, but it’s been time to go.
I don’t know how he will take it if Milan wins the UCL without him.

      1. It doesn’t matter what you write him as, it will never count as a trophy he has won or contributed to directly because most of the season he wasn’t even at Milanello.

  3. Comments are a bit on edge…cool it down. I’m of the opinion it’s time for him to hang his boots, but I think Zlatan deserves a little respect when talking about it.
That said, I wouldn’t mind seeing him take up a coaching role though. Hope he has or in the process of acquiring his badges.
