CorSera: Several players certain to leave Milan this summer – the names

By Oliver Fisher -

A very important summer is coming up for AC Milan as they look to appoint a head coach and build a squad that will allow them to instantly respond to Inter’s 20th Scudetto win.

As Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports, here is a lot of talk about the incoming market and the players that might arrive to galvanise the squad, with a large emphasis placed on the striker that will be signed.

However, there will also be some rather key departures as well which will make some room when it comes to the wage budget but will also produce gaps to be filled.

The paper claims that Olivier Giroud will leave when his deal expires (to join Los Angeles FC in the MLS), while Antonio Mirante, Simon Kjaer and Mattia Caldara will also depart on a free.

Luka Jovic’s farewell is described as ‘probable’ despite the fact he has scored nine goals and arrived on a free transfer, while Yacine Adli’s is ‘possible’ even if he has carved out more of a role in recent months.

As for the big names like Maignan and Theo Hernandez, who have many admirers around Europe, they will only leave if truly irrefutable mind-boggling offers arrive at Casa Milan, as seen with the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle.

    1. Wasn’t it a one year contract with option? If he leaves then the management doesn’t take up the option/offered him new one, instead of selling him, no?

      1. Its good to have variation in attack.
If for example we got sesko, we would have power, Okafor gives pace and Jovic is a poacher who can be brought on to form a 2 striker attack when we need it.

Its a win win for everyone

    2. Pioli rewards our goal scorers with a vacation on the bench… LOL!!!

Common Sense: All your forwards score with a two striker system. Maybe try that out other than during 5-0-5 emergency formations?

  1. Saying that Mike and Theo are only for sale for ‘mind boggling’ offers is just putting them front and centre in the transfer window. Mind boggling offers will come in from the prem

  2. THERE ARE ONLY THREE JESUS WHO CAN SAVE MILAN

    1. ABATE
    2. ZLATKO DALIC
    3. LIONEL SCALONI

    ABATE IS A UYL FINALIST.

DALIC IS A WORD CUP FINALIST 2018, SEMIFINALIST 2022 AND UEFA NATIONS LEAGUE FINALIST 2023.

SCALONI IS A WORLD CUP WINNER 2022.

    THE REST ARE AVIATOR GAMBLERS.

    1. Yea, definitely make your font BIGGER! Makes your point come across better.

      Also please clarify “aviator gamblers”?

    2. Dalic has no clue what he is doing. He is just lucky to be the coach of a great generation of players. But as a coach, he is not good enough for Serie D. I am not kidding.

  3. Sell theo,Leao, who has nothing for the shirt. They only play for personal glory and fame.
    And keep gems like Adli

  4. The simple reality for Jovic is that he’s not true back up and he doesn’t provide the point of difference off the bench.

He’s a support striker who plays off the 9 im a front . The jury is out on whether he is even good – take a deep breath and look at the goals he scores. They’re taps ins that you’d expect a primavera striker to score.

He has no real presence when he starts a match. He’s not someone who can run at a defence or hold the ball up and help the side progress the ball.

In reality Jovic is the number 4, you bring him on because he knows where to be along side the 9 to score as you’re chasing the game.

I suspect people don’t watch a lot of other games, not involving Milan, and don’t appreciate how little Milan’s stikers contribute to the whole 90. It’s a big part of the reason Milan loses control of games because it can’t retain the ball and progress it forward, that all comes from the wings.

If it sounds extreme, ask yourself why they’re targeting Zirkzee whose biggest strength is the build up. He’s not a prolific scorer nor is it obvious that he has the ball striking / finishing quality to suggest that becoming a prolific scorer is a foregone conclusion which will come with age. I really like Zirkzee but that doesn’t make him something he’s not.

In terms of the order it should look something like:

    1. Scamacca / Zirkzee / Sesko / Guirassy (sic?)

    2. A player who can make the same structural contribution as 1 to enable Milan to play the way it wants to play. He will have similar characteristics but will obviously be a lesser player. Of the guys in the Serie A this would be Lorenzo Lucca, N’ Zola (before his form fell of the proverbial cliff), Zapata.

    3. Is a different type of striker to change the dynamic. Given the characteristics of 1 (and 2) he’s going to have to be really quick. I think Okafor is fine, subject to staying fit for the whole season. He’s cover both on the wing or up front.

    4. Is where Jovic would come in. If you want a specialist to play in a front 2 (which we know he can do). But I’d just as soon use the spot in the squad to get Camarda game time. Colombo could also have this spot.
