CorSera: Summer of manager appointments – Milan and Conte at the forefront

By Isak Möller -

In the summer, we could see a lot of managerial changes in the football world. AC Milan are looking to replace Stefano Pioli, the likes of Antonio Conte and Tomas Tuchel are looking for new clubs, Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool and so on.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), the summer will indeed offer a ‘manager revolution’ and Milan are involved as Pioli is expected to leave. But there are also many other examples, such as Xabi Alonso and Bayern Munich’s search for a new manager.

Conte is keen on returning to Italy after his Tottenham tenure came to an end in March last year, as the newspaper continues, but Milan are focusing on other profiles as things stand. The Italian will likely end up elsewhere, therefore, and this will also be very interesting to follow.

Thiago Motta, currently the manager of Bologna, remains one of the top candidates for Milan and this is something we have said since December on our Substack. Conte remains unlikely for various reasons and given Motta’s success with Bologna, one can understand the Rossoneri’s reasoning.

In the meantime, Pioli is aiming to finish his Milan tenure on a good note, currently in third place in the league and still competing for the Europa League trophy.

  1. I’m not sold on Motta, you see it time and again young manager doing well at mediocre team, moves to a big team and fails miserably. We need someone who can handle the pressure and win things….Conte is a seriel winner, Motta has won nothing…..you do the maths

  2. There’s no doubt that motta has had a fantastic season but I still have my doubts about him, just like xabi Alonso. These are two coaches who have had stellar seasons but have also just started their managerial careers. Are they able to keep up their showings? Able to adapt? Milan aren’t a team that can afford a risk to see if they’re the real deal. Someone like Conte is a guarantee. Has always been at the top for the last 10 years

    1. Sensible take. Milan’s lights shine brighter than Bologna’s. would be a gamble for sure.

When Marotta took over Inter, the first thing he did was to dismiss Spaletti and bring in Conte and his winning mentality and Inter wont the Scudetto in the second year under him.

The current Inter team is built on Conte’s psychological backbone and you can tell the effects still last. That’s why I am not against Conte taking over even though on paper Motta makes more sense.

  3. Hi to all the AC Milan lovers

We currently need a coach with a good statue to take over because we need to compete well in the Champion league.

The history has proven that we won Champions league because of brilliant coaches and players we got .
To the new investors please take a look at the rich history of the football club and understand the fundamental concept which made us one of the best clubs in the world.

I trust right decision will be put for the success of the club.

    Thank you
