CorSera: The factors contributing to Maignan’s difficult run of form

By Oliver Fisher -

In the last two months Mike Maignan has seen his usual excellent performance levels decline a bit, alternating a few good saves with some soft goals conceded.

What are the causes? Carlos Passerini has written a piece for Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) this morning in which he outlined some of the factors that might contribute to the struggles that Maignan is enduring.

There are those who say that after the case of the shameful racist abuse he received against Udinese he has lost a bit of calm, but the fact he has a contract expiring in two years could also weigh on his mind.

The big clubs in Europe continue to be linked with a move, though it is hard to say whether that would make a player lose focus. There are some who point the finger at the new goalkeeping coach, Tony Roberts, who arrived in the summer.

Stefano Pioli, however, reiterated the enormous trust he has in his goalkeeper yesterday, declaring in the press conference that ‘Mike’s miracles are not over’.

The Frenchman will have to be at his best if Milan are to keep a clean sheet against Atalanta tonight, given the excellent form that they are in.
