CorSera: The key reason Milan decided to sack Giampaolo in favour of Pioli

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan decided to sack head coach Marco Giampaolo after one key moment, according to the latest reports.

The Rossoneri are set to fire Marco Giampaolo after just seven games in charge, as our correspondent Vito Angele told us yesterday.

Despite widespread reports suggesting Luciano Spalletti was set to take his spot, it appears Milan have gone for another former Inter boss in Stefano Pioli – with the coach set to sign his contract today.

Fans have not taken to the news well, and it has been so badly received that #PioliOut has even reached the number one trend in Italy on Twitter.

According to Calciomercato.com – who cited il Corriere della Sera – there was one moment in particular when the club’s leaders know it was right to dismiss Giampaolo.

That came on Saturday when he announced his starting line-up for the game against Genoa.

Instead of turning to Rafael Leao and Lucas Paqueta he opted to keep them on the bench until he brought both on at half-time.

As far as Paolo Maldini and Zvonomir Boban were concerned though the damage was done, as that starting XI was enough of an indication of Giampaolo’s confusion, the report concludes.
