CorSport: Allegri considers Modric and Rabiot crucial for ‘Instant Milan’ project

Max Allegri wants to get AC Milan back to respectable levels as quickly as possible and he has a plan to do it. First, however, Igli Tare must help him out with the mercato.

After what was an incredibly disappointing 024-25 season, Milan hired Tare and Allegri to turn things around and return to the Champions League for the 2026-27 season. It’s an uphill battle for the duo, no doubt about it, but there is a plan to achieve success.

According to today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Allegri has made it clear that experience must be added to the team. Having too many youngsters will force the manager to account for a longer acclimatisation period, which the Rossoneri cannot afford.

Modric and Rabiot to lead ‘Instant Milan’ project

As the newspaper puts it, Allegri has a clear plan for what is known as the ‘Instant Milan’ project, looking to get things back on track immediately. In addition to the signing of the 40-year-old veteran Luka Modric, the former Juventus head coach also wants Adrien Rabiot at his disposal.

The 30-year-old always performed well under Allegri and is considered a very loyal player by the manager. Especially considering Tijjani Reijnders’ departure, it’s a midfield reinforcement that would help Milan a lot.

Rabiot is currently at Marseille but could arrive for a reasonable price, having joined them on a free transfer and with just one year left on his contract. He also knows Serie A really well, of course, and would be able to slot into Allegri’s system immediately.

As for Modric, his experience speaks for itself and his presence in the locker room shouldn’t be underestimated either. The same goes for the desire to win football games, which is something the duo certainly could help with next season.

  1. No Rabiot.
Give me Xhaka and Malik Tillman with Modric.
Tillman would be a great replacement for Reijnders. Get him before his price goes up.

    1. early shoutout to Fazzini, very similar to Tiji. runs everywhere, maybe not as big of a stamina beast as Tiji but the kid definitely has potential and would be good sub for Puli who I think will be used as N10 this year.

with empoli being relegated he could be an easy 10-15M signing.

  2. Ill quit! it took us so many years to come back to europe and three years later we are gone again and still talking about grandfathers when ucl final is lead by 19 year old teenagers, not to mention the guy from barca.

  3. I don’t see 40yr old players in Barca and PSG midfield. I get it if Milan want a mixture of youth and experience but to rely on Modric and Rabiot seems crazy to me.

Malik Tilman is a perfect replacement for Reinjders because defensively and attacking he’s better and younger than Reinjders.

Having Tilman alongside Xhaka and Fofana makes more sense which Modric can fill in when needed.

  4. There is no instant Milan project. There’s either keep hold of talent and build around it… instantly.

Or there’s begin a tough rebuilding project, with some veterans whose job it is to get the younger players ready to compete.

  5. “The same goes for the desire to win football games…” is this an underhand swipe at half of our team? 😅

  6. We need squad evolution like in 2001-2003 period or at least the one from previous Allegri arrival, not another 2017 foreign disaster.

  7. I’m afraid that Allegri and Tare are looking at players that have been good during the last decade and not paying attention to rising players that are getting better and could make our team better.
It’s one thing to go for Modrić, but if we start going for Rabiot, we will become a team of almost retired players.

    1. Or they know it’s very difficult to build an entire team with no veteran experience. The same reason that last time we tried it, we ended up getting in Simon Kjaer and Ibrahimovic to add some leadership and experience.

Also, playing with some experienced veterans is probably part of the sales pitch to you get prospects – get the right leaders in and let the youngsters develop with them.

  8. Sadly, I can only see it as a means of further decline; especially going for Rabiot.
Very disappointing the whole developments around ACM obviously during the entire last season, but also during the last few weeks.
Let’s see though, things might change hopefully towards the best

  9. Come on. Italy National team needs more talents and the Dinosaurs want s not just 1 but 2 very old players. Come on Modric is enough, Rabiot is so slow, and comes with very high salary.

  10. You knockers saying grandpas etc youknow nothing ,the mentality of winners like Xaha or Modric can transform a team ,Milan has under perfomed of late you need generals ,and that is
what both those players are ,theycan guide any team that has genuine ability.
