AC Milan will face Lecce this Friday and by the looks of it, Massimiliano Allegri could field two midfield signings rather than just one.
After the 1-2 defeat against Cremonese in the opener, Allegri received a bit of criticism for starting Youssouf Fofana and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in midfield. Granted that Luka Modric got the nod, the manager also had Samuele Ricci and Ardon Jashari on the bench.

While you could argue Jashari hasn’t been at the club for a long time, Ricci played a lot during pre-season and also impressed in the holding midfield role. In short, the criticism was certainly warranted, especially when you factor in Fofana and Loftus-Cheek’s displays.
Change on the cards
According to today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Allegri seems to have learned his lessons as two midfield signings are expected to start. Modric is set to be confirmed in the starting XI, while Ricci will battle it out with Jashari for the other spot.
You would have to assume that Loftus-Cheek is ahead of Fofana for the final spot even if, as said, none of them did well against Cremonese. That would be a midfield trio of Loftus-Cheek, Ricci/Jashari and Modric.
Having Modric a bit further up the pitch could certainly be useful in unlocking the attack, especially since Ricci (and Jashari) can handle the holding role very well.

Position is not so important as role the player is used at. Maybe he can use him at DM position as a deep lying playmaker(DLP)?

Luka Modric played 856 games and 26 as a DM. Do you think there is a reason? To put a player with a killer finish pass close to the goal? Maybe he can use him as DLP? Andrea Pirlo had a renaissance in Juventus under Allegri when playing DLP. But in order to have DLP, you need your striker to be a Target Man which is why Allegri is pushing for Vlahovic(definition of Target Man). And i don’t get the hate for Vlahovic since he is a beast of the player and perfect for this role.
Andrea Pirlo played DLP since Ancelotti put him there. He played over 400 matches for Milan as a DLP and you want to make up that Allegri put him there??? This is the type of nonsense only someone that didn’t follow Milan can write. You are delusional.
RR, the point is that Modric is even better when he is closer to the goal. Of course he did good, he is still world class, he would do good anywhere in midfield. But you don’t put one of the best players ever to deliver that final pass so far from the goal. Modric excels in the position he played for Real, Tottenham, Dinamo Zagreb and Croatian national team. Nobody is fool enough to pull him back onto DM.
Modric isn’t Pirlo, he can’t play Regista, he’s more Seedorf than Pirlo. It takes a special player to play the Regista role as good as Pirlo did and Modric just isn’t there.
The fact RLC is still even in consideration for a starting spot shows how bad a place we’re in…

I agree! I’ll freely admit that I was never a fan of hiring Allegri. I still hear Juve fans cheering the hire. He’s taking football back to 2014. But remember, his Juve team in 2014 had two of the best center defenders in Italy.. Hell. I could coach them. I’d tell them just go out and play and I would look like a genius.
