CorSport: Atalanta winger ‘destined’ to join Milan – done deal ‘only a matter of time’

AC Milan are looking to complete the signing of Josip Ilicic from Atalanta before the summer window closes, according to a report.

Il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes how Gian Piero Gasperini’s comments on Ilicic confirm that he is set to depart, as he responded when asked about his future: “He is preparing to find a team that can let him play.”

Milan are the most likely destination but the management have not yet reached an agreement with Atalanta. Directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are aiming for a low cost deal, and would like to get away with simply giving up the 50% of the fee that would be handed to them in the event of Matteo Pessina’s sale.

However, that percentage will be cancelled out automatically when the midfielder reaches 100 appearances for La Dea through the payment of a €3m bonus. That is why Atalanta are asking for a further cash adjustment for Ilicic, but it is ‘only a matter of time’ as the paper claims the 33-year-old ‘is destined to move to Milan’.
