CorSport: Bartesaghi recovers just in time to avoid defensive crisis for Milan-Inter

Davide Bartesaghi has recovered just in time for tomorrow’s Derby della Madonnina, and while he might not play from start, he will still be crucial for AC Milan.

It was at the end of the game against Cremonese that Bartesaghi had to come off with a muscle problem. The timing couldn’t have been any worse with the derby coming up, but thankfully the tests ruled out any serious issues.

As such, the left-back was able to train with the rest of the squad yesterday, getting some much-needed steps in ahead of the big game. Even though he might not play from start, as Corriere dello Sport explains (via MilanNews), his return is still crucial.

Crucial option off the bench

Massimiliano Allegri is having to deal with the absence of Matteo Gabbia, who has been a leader at the back this season. That leaves just three centre-backs for the back three (if we exclude David Odogu), but here is where Bartesaghi comes in.

Indeed, while it seems Pervis Estupinan is currently ahead for the left wing-back spot, Bartesaghi will offer depth on the bench. Not only will he be able to replace the Ecuadorian if needed, but he will also be an option for the back three if anything were to happen there.

In that sense, the academy product’s return is crucial even if he might not play from the first minute.
