CorSport: Battle of the No.10s underpins Inter and Milan’s derby ambitions

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Inter will contest the first Derby della Madonnina this evening at San Siro, and it will see the battle between two No.10s.

Today’s edition of the Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about Rafael Leao and Lautaro Martinez. The two players are the symbols of their respective clubs and from this year they also share the shirt number, 10.

Lautaro has had it since his arrival at Inter but Leao, on the other hand, has only had it since the summer when he signed a contract renewal.

The two forwards have chosen Milan as a second home, with the Argentine having started a family in Italy and the latter having just extended his contract with Milan, complete with a €175m release clause.

Lautaro, after his renewal in October 2021, removed his €111m release clause. After Romelu Lukaku’s departure he is already the highest paid in the squad, but there could be a negotiation for a pay rise in time.

Milan are one Lautaro Martinez’s favourite victims. In fact, he has already scored 8 goals scored against the Rossoneri in 14 matches (three in the last season), and only versus Cagliari – with 9 – did he score more.

Leao is stuck at 2 goals, i.e. the double in the derby a year ago (it was 3 September), the only one won by the Rossoneri last season.
