CorSport: Cardoso and Ricci on Milan’s midfield list – who is more likely to join

AC Milan are on the hunt for a new midfielder who can become the deputy to Youssouf Fofana, and a report has claimed that there are two ideas above all.

According to today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), the difficult beginning to the season has exposed some gaps in the Milan squad and one of them is that fact that there is no reliable back-up for Fofana.

As early as the January window, Geoffrey Moncada and co. could decide to accelerate and sign a midfielder with more defensive characteristics with two names standing out: Johnny Cardoso of Real Betis and Samuele Ricci of Torino.

Cardoso had already ended up in the sights of the Diavolo’s directors in the summer when the arrival of Fofana from Monaco did not seem so certain. He has US and Italian citizenship and could therefore be registered as an EU citizen (Milan have no free slots for non-EU players), with the asking price around €20m.

Ricci meanwhile is certainly a slightly more complicated idea than the one that leads to Cardoso, first of all because it has a higher cost (at least €30m), then the fact Torino are unlikely to sell a star in January, while Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are also interested.

  1. Cordoso is another average player who will not add any quality this team. If management sign him then they all should be fired.

Ricci should have been signed 2 years ago when Torino wanted to sign Pobega permanently from his loan at Torino.

I will never understand why Pioli and the rest of Milan management didn’t sell Pobega to get Ricci on a discount instead of recalling Pobega to Milan.

This Milan management is the most brain dead management I’ve seen in all my years as a Milan fan since 1988. I didn’t think it could get worse than Mirabelli and Fassone. Sigh!

  2. Why not sign Ricci in January then leave him at Torino for 6months loan, the club will like the idea of getting value for their player while still keeping him for 6months

    1. I quite like that idea if it were gonna help facilitate the deal but I have my doubts if the management would actually go down that road as it also comes with some risks if he were to get inured in the meantime.

  3. Of course the idiot Moncada overlooked Ricci, he’s not Italian. Ricci’s value is now over €30 million. I don’t see us paying €30 million. Next year’s budget is going to be reduced, unless Theo or Leao are sold. Moncada out.

  4. This clowns made another obsession in this Cardosso…just like they did with Emerson “Royal”. These are the harsh consequences if you don’t have a proper knowledgeable true sportive director…
We need the best sportive director in Italy. He is Giovanni Sartori

  5. The management are destroying our Milan, signing average players at all times
Samuels Ricci is the one to choose,a quality evolving Italian, but we know that they won’t go for quality Italian players,we now have non Italian Milan which doesn’t bodes well for Ac Milan..
