CorSport: Colombo set for another Serie A loan deal – the details

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan striker Lorenzo Colombo is set for another loan move, this time to Serie A side Empoli. The Italian spent the previous season on loan at Monza.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News), the 22-year-old striker will be heading to Tuscany to join an Empoli side that narrowly avoided dropping into Serie B last season.

Colombo spent last season at Monza and it seemed he was destined to sign permanently for the Brianzoli, but they have focused their attacking efforts elsewhere and did not come to an agreement with Milan on a fee.

A product of the Milan youth academy, Colombo has already been on loan at Cremonese and SPAL in Serie B, and then Lecce and Monza in Serie A.

The move is expected to be a dry loan with no agreed fee at the end of it, but if he plays well for Empoli, there would presumably be a negotiation over a permanent transfer.

Colombo is under contract at Milan until 2028 but given he is now 22 years old and Milan are trying to sign two strikers during the summer, it seems his long-term future is away from the Rossoneri. He scored four goals for Monza last season.

  1. Oh for god sake just let him be free.

There’s clearly no future for him so just let him go, and try and not ruin the next youth product coming through with endless loans.

  2. I don’t know what kind of leap in quality Milan are waiting to see out of Colombo at this point. Instead of loaning him out every season, maybe just sell him on altogether and be cone with it.
