CorSport: €40m midfielder could leave Man Utd after one year – he is a target for Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have got Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek on their list of targets ahead of the summer window, a report claims.

Van de Beek only joined United for £35m (€40m) from Ajax last summer but has so far struggled to adapt to life at Old Trafford, making just 19 Premier League appearances in total and just three starts.

The 24-year-old was brought in to compliment pieces like Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba in United’s midfield but is understood to have become frustrated at a lack of opportunities and at a crucial stage in his development too.

Il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that Milan have become alerted by the situation surrounding the Netherlands international who could end up on the market. Given the amount paid out 12 months ago by the Red Devils a permanent deal is unlikely, but he could be a profitable loan opportunity for the Rossoneri if they decide to let him go.

  1. Seems unlikely to come off, but if Man Utd are serious about €20m per year for Pogba and paying €110m for Sancho’s transfer (and Pau Torres) then this could be a way for them to raise funds.

VDB’s salary isn’t astronomical by modern standards (€6m per year pre-tax) so he’s on much less than Calhanoglu was offered and is a young guy with decent resell value…

I don’t expect this would be possible but would be great if it were, either as a loan or transfer.

  2. Would be lovely to see him in red & black but if it’s not possible then maybe we can consider Julian Draxler, James Rodriguez or Coutinho.

  3. It would be great to have him in our squad, but I don’t think that any player that costs more than 20 mil. we can afford, and the chances for Milan to buy several players 0%. Also there is the salary if they negotiate with Kessie about 6 mil per yer, there is no chanse that we will sign player that earns more then 4 mil per year. At this moment i’m sceptical that Milan can make team for Champions league and Seria A top 4 finsh with loans. We dont even want to sign Tonali, he is worth every cent, and if the coach does not use him then change the coach. We cant aford to loose young talents cos we dont give them time to play and on the other side we can loan young players for 1 year? what is the point in this? better to develop that has contract with Milan, then the players we dont own.

    1. Kessie is asking for €6m per year after tax, which is ~€12m per year gross, so about double what VDB is on.

DVDB earns around €3m net (after tax). If he moved permanently, there’d also be a tax break on 50% of his salary (so approx ~1/3 saving for Milan).

But this is all conjecture based on Man Utd allowing him to leave, which is unlikely in the first place.

      1. Well you are right but Kessie is worth it, yes there should be limit like with Donaruma and Calhanoglu (he dont deserve 5mil per year), but if Milan has i plan and that plan includes that Milan is going towards the TOP of Seria A and Europe then they must spend on salaries otherwise they will create players and then they will go on and Milan win nothing. And YES i dont understend FFP, there are some rules but they dont aply for all meaning that they cant always use it as excuse.
